At that age we had some success either dangle nursing or side-lying, otherwise walking while nursing and nursing as soon as LO woke up so she didn't have time to think about it!

thanks all. i spent the holiday reading and re-reading kellymom and la leche resources - but do appreciate the tips that echoed what those websites said!

@seattlemom: my supply is ok…I've been pumping and get more than he eats from the bottles (knock wood!)

@Mrs. Twine - that is exactly what I have ended up doing. Offering, but not trying not to force. It IS way harder said than done, lol! But we have successfully pulled the bottle/breast switcheroo a few times at night, now. Tonight will be the first trying to do so in the middle of the night (which used to be our snuggle and nurse time for sure, tear!). Because of course there is a nursing strike AND a sleep phase causing him to wake much more often :) I appreciate the shower idea though - I am going to try that this weekend if we are still going strong!

@chuckles: ah so true! it is DRAINING. i will def get in more snuggles as i can before and after work, thank you!

This didn't end up working for us, but it was recommended to spend a couple of days doing lots of topless skin to skin snuggling. Like, hang out in bed together, read books, sing songs, etc. Even if it doesn't work, it's a nice bonding time since nursing strikes can be draining.
Also, pump during normal nursing times to keep your supply up

For us (both girls) nursing in the tub was helpful, but both of them had strikes later (around 8/10 months), so it might be more challenging since he's smaller. I have nursed in the shower in a stretchy wrap (baby's face away from the spray; so with the spray aimed at their back/bottom, but not interfering with nursing), and that might work. Might not be worth it if you don't already have something you can use for that.

I would just keep offering, but respond to his signals. If he seems upset, or like he isn't interested, I would just stop before he gets very upset (probably easier said than done, but I'd try). Good luck! I know nursing strikes can be really draining, especially when things are going well and they surprise you.

Maybe check your milk supply, I know sometimes this happens if you have a dip in your supply.

Here are some more ideas:

hey all! we are 2 days into a full on nursing strike (complete refusal since one sleepy latch on for a nap Wednesday), and i need to hear some success stories to get me through this, emotionally.

what eventually got you through your strike? time? really attempting to latch while sleepy/after a bottle? others?

also, did you ever discover the 'culprit'? LO is 16 weeks tomorrow and i keep hoping it's something as straightforward as teething...

finally, did anyone ever try to 'stop offering for a few days' to take the stress off? i am worried about making it worse by making the little guy cry every 3 hours. i didn't offer during his two feeds this morning, and was just refused for his afternoon feed. :(

really, any insights or 'we made it' stories would so great to hear at this point. i was so looking forward to a good week of nursing during the holiday, as LO has to take bottles 3x a day while i'm at work.
