@Rainbow Sprinkles: where can I find that tincture ??

It hasn't been painful for us. Well scratch that, it was painful when zuma had a day of a biting phase but she sropped. But I'm only 18 weeks and she's 7 months.

Thanks ladies, I appreciate all the responses. Tonight was just as bad. He even bit me and I barely even noticed because my nipples were soo sore as he was nursing. I was hoping he'd self wean but I don't know. This kid loves the boob.

I'm 16 weeks tomorrow & it hurts pretty bad still. My left side is way worse than my right. I don't want to tandem nurse either so we are putting a plan in place for weaning soon. (LO is 14 months.)

It didn't get less painful for me and we ended up weaning at 18 moths (I was around 22 weeks). It worked out though because she had a bad allergy spell and wasn't interested in nursing anyway.

For me, it hurt around the first trimester, the normal time for your nipples to be sore and sensitive.

Then, it started to get bad again around 32 weeks. I don't know what changed for it to start hurting again, but things just got worse from there until I delivered. :(

good news is that I had a huge chunk of time where it was comfortable!

I nursed my oldest until the day my second was born and my milk never dried up. Sure, my supply went down a bit, but she was by no means dry nursing.

There is a tincture by mother love called "more milk two " that is designed for use while pregnant and is completely safe for your baby. It can help your milk supply if you notice it dwindling.

@Kemma: Wow! Yeah, I do a lot of dry nursing (comfort nursing) with my LO, and when I'm hormonal before AF, it hurts so bad.

To the OP, I would think that once your hormones regulate a bit near the 2nd trimester, your nipples won't hurt as bad.

@littlejoy: as far as I understand the pregnancy hormones cause the milk to dry up and then the colostrum to come in a short time later. My milk dried up at about 16-17 weeks.

@Kemma: Why would the babe be dry nursing? Does the milk dry up before baby 2 to allow colostrum to form?

Can I be brutally honest and say it gets worse when they're just dry nursing? :-( perhaps lanolin might help?

My son is 16.5 months and I'm still breastfeeding. I'm 6 weeks pregnant and it is SO incredibly painful. Like painful enough that I want to wean.

Does it get better?

I don't plan on tandem nursing so if he doesn't wean in the next few months then I will probably wean him. Is it worth sticking it out for now?
