But because I had severe engorgement once my milk came in, my LC said not to wear them all the time because they may compress my ducts and give me a clog or lead to mastitis. Night #2 in the hospital, this was me, I was bawling, DS wanted to nurse all the time (night #1 he was sleepy) and there happened to still be a LC in the hospital who came at midnight and brought me the gel pads. It was the only thing that helped a little bit.</p> <p>Hang in there! They said my DS had a tongue tie - unfortunately he ended up being hospitalized for an unrelated issue so we did not get to fixing the tongue tie. Supposedly it is super quick and easy recovery, especially the earlier it's done. It isn't horrible but at almost three weeks sometimes the latch still hurts so bad. I am going to talk to the pedi about it at her month appointment. The Ameda brand is the best and the Lansinoh actually were too sticky and stuck to my scabs and actually made me pull them off. Drying out my nipples with milk didn't help me at all. But these hydrogel pads were a godsend. My nipples were in a very very bad place (like, gaping open wounds by the time we worked out our issues), and I managed to find a product called Medihoney. It was amazing. I switched between APNO and medihoney, soaked my nipples in warm salt water, and used breast shells (not shields) to keep my clothes from squishing my nips. DD was born Thursday afternoon and latched immediately. Like they put her to my chest and she found my boob on her own and aggressively glommed on. She wanted to nurse every 90 mins or so through Thursday night and by yesterday my nipples were so beat up already. We saw the IBCLC (whom I already knew and trust) and she immediately noted that DD has a complete tongue tie and partial lip tie. They don't fix them at the hospital and the specialist in our area was closed yesterday so we can't get in until Monday at the earliest. We worked with the LC a lot yesterday to figure out the most comfortable positions to get us through till then but I'm in a lot of pain.</p> <p>Anyone deal with this and have tips, both for feeding and how to treat my nipples? I'm doing lanolin after each feeding and letting them air dry; since my milk isn't in yet I can't rub any breast milk on them. </p> <p>Thanks! </p>
