@junebugmama: so far his bowel movements have been fine. He doesn't seem to like the baby carrier so far, but I'm going to keep trying it...

I never burped. What are his bowl movements like? any trouble there? "Upright" doesn't necessarily need to be vertical. Just as long as they are at an angle it shouldn't be an issue. One of the best ways it to put them in a baby carrier, so that you can move and aren't uncomfortable.

Thanks shopaholic! He fell asleep on my chest once - that was one of the good nights ; ) Today he was up for almost 6 hours straight! We're both exhausted. I'm hoping tonight will be better...

I had that issue. I still always burped. I think at that age we had reflux and I spent a couple of weeks or more letting her sleep upright on my chest in bed. :/

My 5 week old son seems to be really gassy and it wakes him up and then it's really hard to get him back to sleep. My pediatrician recommended burping him and holding him upright for at least 30 minutes after nursing. The problem is, he always falls asleep while nursing and holding him upright or on my shoulder wakes him up. His gas is better but now he's screaming because he's overtired and doesn't know how to fall back asleep. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!
