I definitely don't think they are necessary, but I love them! I can't really wear regular necklaces these days because my LO will grab and pull and nom on them. Chew Beads are made to be grabbed and pulled and nommed, and they make me feel a teensy bit more dressed up. I have them in black and red. I wore a nursing necklace once my son was around 4-5 months and started really playing with everything and getting distracted. They help keep them focused toward the breast and give them something to occupy them during nursing. It really did help us as I was tired of having a little hand exploring my face and mouth or pinching my skin or him popping off constantly to look elsewhere. Also, if I was dressed for work I didn't want his little hands pulling at my nice clothes.
