All the schools that DS has been to require the items to be store bought and labeled that they come from a nut free facility. We have a nut free bakery that sells its cupcakes at all of the local grocery stores in my area (just bought some last day of daycare cupcakes and cringed at the price tag of $11 for 6 for essentially grocery store cupcakes but the options are somewhat limited). I do recall asking our daycare the first time I had to bring a treat for examples of other store bought treats that are labeled to come from nut free facilities and I think I recall them saying Oreos (I find that surprising!) and Tofutti Cuties (in addition to the cupcakes that we do every time). Lots of parents seems to skip the treats altogether and just do little goodie bags with party favors.

@MamaG: If you're trying to be dairy-free, I'd skip the cheezits and get a different type of cracker. Graham crackers, wheat thins, or Ritz crackers are safe.

@catlady: Yes! We love the Enjoy Life chocolate chips in our household (we have nut and dairy allergies). Good call!

@MamaG: At my grocery store, you can find Enjoy Life in the same section as gluten-free stuff. And if you have a Whole Foods near you, they would definitely have it.

This is really nice of you. I'm not an allergy mom, but after 14 months of MSPI diet (which was also nut free), I would have really appreciated that.

If you can find Enjoy Life chocolate chips, they might be a good substitute for M&Ms. They are dairy and nut free.

@MamaG: I just have to say, as a allergy mom, it's so nice to have people like you who are conscientious of this! <3

As others have said, m&ms are made in facilities with peanuts and tree nuts. We don't let Logan have any because of the risk of contamination.

@MamaG: you're welcome! Rock candy is another super allergen friendly idea (basically just sugar, water and food coloring) that goes with the Frozen theme.

So great of you to think of kids with allergies!!

Not as healthy as your idea, but marshmallows are very allergen friendly (dairy, nut, gluten free) , and I've seen a many Frozen themed marshmallow based treats - lots of Olafs!

You ladies have been so helpful. DD really wants to hand out a treat, do you have a recommendation of a good safe one? Even if we do the one that she wants to do, I'm happy to have an alternative on hand. She wasn't really on board with a non-food favor.

I'm the nut allergic one (not LO), and I don't eat M&Ms. I had a severe reaction from cross contamination about 30 years ago and my understanding is that their manufacturing practices haven't changed, though the labeling has improved.

Some people choose not to eat m&m's due to cross contamination risks. But sixlets could be a good alternative, depending on what the packaging says .. I believe they are also dairy free. That's really nice of you to consider kids with food allergies!

I don't allow DD to eat M&Ms, but I know some allergy moms do. I buy her ones from the Vermont Nut Free Company, but they are a lot pricier.

I don't expect people to accommodate my daughter's allergies. While it's sad that she's left out, it's for her own safety. I just appreciate being notified ahead of time so I can make sure to pack a special treat that she can enjoy while everyone else gets chex mix!

@Pollywog: I really like this mix! My son has several allergies as well and I think I am going to make this. Thanks for sharing!

@MamaG: you are so sweet to think about kids with allergies! I think M&Ms have a "may contain peanut" warning because they manufacture them with the peanut m&ms. I don't give them to my nut allergic son for that reason... That being said, there are often food related favors that he can't eat and we totally don't mind at all. I don't really expect anyone throwing a party to keep up with all of the potential allergies these days. You could have some stickers or little containers of bubbles on hand as a backup if you really wanted to, but again, I don't think it's a must!

It should be fine for nuts, but is a no-go for dairy (M& Ms and cheese its). My LO has several allergies and I make the trail mix like this: fosted cheerios, dried blueberries, enjoy life chocolate chunks, and gluten free pretzel sticks. This contains soy, but is virtually allergy free

Or really any food allergy mom's I suppose. LO wants to make this as her favor to give at her Frozen Birthday party.

Frozen Theme Party (chex) mix:

Chex cereal
Pretzel Sticks
Swiss or Provolone Cheezits
Peanuts (we will omit, replace with Cheerios maybe?)
M&M's (blue and white)

Would nut allergy kiddos be able to eat this? Our school is nut free so I'm not sure who might have a nut allergy.

There is also possibly a milk allergy in one kiddo. My DD said that one kiddo doesn't ever drink milk. I'm not sure if that's an allergy or something else though.
