brooklyn children’s museum is wonderful! Much better than one in manhattan (which we go to a lot but kind of hate—it’s. Small and gets so crowded). Also Sugar Hill children’s museum is really lovely!

There are a ton of awesome playgrounds in Central Park

We live in TX and visit my in-laws a few times a year in
NYC.

Natural History Museum for sure at this age! The children's museum is fine, but not worth it if you only have one day. We went when we were there for 4 days, and he enjoyed it, but would have preferred returning to Natural History.

There are lots of good neighborhood playgrounds if you need to burn some energy off.

If the Union Square market will be open while you're there, DS enjoyed taking the subway there and getting an apple cider donut ("fall" doesn't really exist where we live!)

I think my 3 year old's ideal day would be: natural history museum, hot dog from a cart for lunch, nature walk and playground in central park, egg cream for a special "NYC-only" dessert.

@snowjewelz: It's funny because one friend lives in Manhattan and only recently got a 'summer home' on the island. The other friend just moved to Long Island from Houston. So it will be fun to find some new places together. And I'll look like a super star if I can suggest some good options too :-)

@math.nerd: I'm close to Huntington! Too bad all the fall activities are over by then. The museum row is def fun; LI childrens museum, firefighting museum, cradle of aviation they are all at the same place. But if your friends with kids live in the area I'm sure they're already well versed in all things kids on the island!

@snowjewelz: My friends live in Locust Valley and Huntington. I'd love LI reccomendations too!

@sillymilly: YESSS! THISSSSS! I remember I was going to NYC a while ago and I was reading about this museum but it wasn't opening until right after my trip. I can't believe I forgot about this. THANK YOU!!!! :-)

@SeptMomma12: These are awesome suggestions too. I'm going to check out the Children's museum too!

Agree with @snowjewelz on Central Park Zoo and Museum of Natural History. He will love the dinosaurs! We haven't been yet, but I've also heard great things about the Children's Museum of Manhattan.

As for LI...it's small, but my son really liked the Nassau County Firefighter's Museum at that age: http://www.ncfiremuseum.org/. Same with the Cradle of Aviation Museum: https://www.cradleofaviation.org/.

Based on your screenname, I'd recommend the museum of mathematics :) It is geared towards kids and has lots of interactive exhibits.

Where will you be on the island? I'm on the island. Feel free to wall me! The island is just so long so it depends on where you are!

Def central park/central park zoo. Natural History Museum, Highline. Do you have Gazillion Bubble show? I don't know if that's an exclusive NYC thing or not.

Hello all!

I'm SO EXCITED to be heading to Long Island (from CA) the first weekend of November with my son (3 3/4) and husband to visit some of my closest girlfriends and their families.

We're thinking of taking the train into NYC one day - likely that Sunday - but I've never done the city before with a little one. Any suggestions of awesome stuff we can't do anywhere else? Or should we just stay on Long Island?

Any recommendations on Long Island?

And while we're at it - any plane ride recommendations?

Thanks all
