Staten Island ferry is free. Ride on the back in the bottom and get a beautiful view of Manhattan. Also Bryant park usually has fun things going on and holiday pop up shops

I would recommend a shake shack burger. The least busy one is at grand central, which can be a neat place for kids.

We always do FAO Schwartz, Lee's Art Shop, Central Park carousel when we visi family. I lived there for 15 years and those are my favorite free/cheap spots to go. If you go close enough to the holidays a look at the Macy's window displays is also awesome!

@mrsjyw: Also, this place is AMAZING....and in the FIDI, but I'm not sure if it's open in winter (should be?) and the website is blocked for some reason at work. http://www.yelp.com/biz/imagination-playground-new-york

@mrsjyw: I took my LO to brunch a couple of times at This place--it's historical which is cool, in the FIDI, and kid friendly because it's big and they have high chairs. The food is pretty good and reasonably priced too...plus the décor has all been redone and each room is really cool. I kind of want to host a private party there at some point, because they have so many cool rooms. http://www.opentable.com/fraunces-tavern-the-porterhouse-brewing-co

@mrsjyw: Would be fun to meet up! If you guys have time for it...

Children's Museum of the Arts is probably the closest to where you guys will be:
http://cmany.org

This is a pretty good calendar of fun events:
http://achildgrows.com/calendar

I went on two of these food tours, and they were great! Since it's chilly, maybe the Chelsea Market one would be better than an outdoors tour?
http://www.foodsofny.com/

A couple of other good museums listed here!!

I agree with @hilsy85...definitely brooklyn bridge park and smorgasburg. Since you're staying near it, you might as well see the WTC memorial. It's not usually too long of a wait and DS can be out of the stroller.

We just went to the Tribeca Children's Museum of the Arts and it was SO fun! It's a great morning or afternoon activity if the weather doesn't cooperate or A needs somewhere to explore.

I would try to do Smorgasburg in Brooklyn Bridge Park on Sunday around 11am. Brooklyn Bridge Park in general is awesome for kids--Smorgasburg is located closer to pier 1 now, which has a great playground for kids. There's also a Luke's Lobster and Shake Shack near there.

@mrbee: anything toddler friendly, so probably not fine dining, and any activities/museums/etc that will keep us out of the cold (pending weather reports! :silly: ) oh and i will be dropping A off so you can snuggle him ;)

What are the MUST EAT/DO/SEEs in a 48 hour time span with DS?

We're doing a quick wknd trip next wk to see my bro and his (new) fiance! :) Want to make the most of our time there!

ETA our hotel is in the financial district near my bro's apt if that makes any difference :)
