Oh and just because you said "green tea" there is a great macaron shop that does green tea and lychee rose macarons. I know it's not what you were originally looking for, but thought I'd throw it out as an option!

Can't see their site right now because it's flash and on my iPhone, but this place is awesome:
http://www.spotdessertbar.com

They do Asian flavors and the entire staff (and most of the clientele) are Asian, but it's also very modern. I had the Thai coffee cupcake and oh. My. Goodness. I believe they have green tea and other flavors like that too.

Have fun searching :-)

A friend of a friend has her own baking company that specializes in Asian inspired baked goods. I've been to a shower and took home a favor that she made and it was delicious! She seems reasonable priced as well, so a less famous option, but perhaps she'd be willing to negotiate more? Her website is:

I highly recommend Nine Cakes, Betsy did my wedding cakes for me and found her to be reasonably priced, incredibly talented and DELICIOUS!!! I know she does some green tea flavored stuff and I'm sure she would be willing to try other flavors, as well. I second Georgetown Cupcakes, hands down my fave cupcake place in terms of flavor and texture etc.

Here are some of may favorites:

-Brooklyn Cupcake (lots of good Latin flavors that I happen to like)
-Robicelli's (they have their own place in Bay Ridge; may have green tea/Asian flavors. they have a lot of out of the box flavors that you can order)
-Georgetown Cupcake
-Two Little Red Hens (these are large but good and perhaps a little expensive
-Sweet & Shiny

Yeah, my only personal recommendations are crumbs, sprinkles and baked by melissa. But they are all wildly expensive.

Yelp has this place which gets rated well: http://m.yelp.com/biz/dollhouse-cupcakes-nyc-new-york-2

I'll second the vote for Sprinkles. Yum!

@hotchildinthecity: Yeah, they're that much if not more here! Cupcakes are expensive to begin with! Hoping to find like a one wo/man team who might be cheaper. ;)

@Anagram: Thanks! I'll check it out.

Party will likely be in Chinatown; but they'll have to deliver. If they're cheap enough and reasonably along the way for us we'll pick up.

@locavore_mama: Not sure what neighborhood you are looking for, but in Forest hills, there's this place that has good reviews and cupcakes in flavors like yuzu, green tea, and black sesame. No prices though--looks like you have to contact them, http://www.yelp.com/menu/silk-cakes-forest-hills

What are you thinking budget-wise? Cupcakes in NYC are typically around $3/each, probably more for custom. We looked into them for my bday last year and it was just completely unaffordable. We ended up going with cake pops.

Are you driving into manhattan, or a borough? You might be able to get a better deal in flushing, the chinatown in queens.

I"m sure they're expensive but sprinkles cupcakes are the bomb diggety!!! And they can do any flavor.

I would recommend the woman I used for my wedding but she was kind of flaky (although the cake itself was really good and I remember her bringing a green tea flavor with earl gray frosting for us to try...). If you're willing to overlook flakiness I can give her info!

We (my aunts, uncles & brothers) are throwing my grandmother a big 99th birthday celebration on July 4th weekend. I know my brothers won't let DH & I contribute financially. So I thought bringing cupcakes with some kind of 99 art will be fun.

Looking for someone good but inexpensive. Bonus if they have experience with creating "Asian" flavors like green tea or red bean cupcakes.

Please only recommend someone you have personally tasted their cupcakes or used for a party/wedding.

Thanks!

P.S. There will be 100+ guests so no, I'm not going to bake 100 cupcakes while 8 months pregnant and travel 7 hours in the car with it. :P
