A year ago when we moved to NJ I did the calculations- for two kids it was going to be around 35k for a nanny or 40k for a center for the year. So that is around 1500-1700/month per kid (and that was on the lower end). :/

@magnolia: I live in Hoboken and centers here (that I've heard of) are currently $2000-2400 full time. When my daughter attended full time here it was $1900 at the center we went to, but I've heard prices have gone up.

Nannies are usually $15-18 for 1 kiddo and more for 2. I have a few friends who do nanny shares and each pay $1600/month, so that ends up being a good deal, if you can find a family to make a good nanny share.

We pay about $22/hour for our nanny to watch our twins. They will start a nursery program this fall that is $645/month per child for 2 days a week for four hours a day.

Wow these are expensive! We pay $850/month for five full days. I haven't looked at too many day cares before finding ours, but the couple I checked out were in the $1000 - $1200 range.

We're in the NJ suburbs (Bergen County) and we pay $1,300/month for my son who's almost 3. When my daughter starts next month in the infant room, it will be $1,500/month for her.

Our daughter will be going to daycare in the Bronx for $1,200 a month. We live in Westchester and it would've been $1,600 here.

I was in hoboken but i'll weigh in. For 5 full days, we actually paid $1400/month. It was by far the cheapest bc it wasn't the prettiest or the most glamorous, but it was in aschool with lots of supervision, and those ladies loved my daughter as if she were their own. the other daycares we looked at ranged from 1900-2300 a few years ago.

Not sure about daycare, but full time nannies in NYC run $15 - 20/ hour plus perks (paid vacation, sick days, metro card, etc...).

So I'm getting ready to go back to work in about a month and trying to figure out a realistic budget for part time childcare for my 8 month old, 3 days a week. One daycare I am considering is $1500 a month. Seems like a lot. Although this center is very legitimate/high quality.
wondering what other NYC bees pay, either to a nanny/babysitter hourly, or for monthly childcare? I realize this is somewhat of a sensitive question, So no judgements and I appreciate anyone's input!
