@hotchildinthecity: @hilsy85: haha I'm sure it's crazy. But DH & I will loooooove all the food! And LO and my niece are very adventurous eaters as well. I'm sure we can find *something* for my nephews with all the vendors.

Thanks! Going to run it by DH and see what he thinks. We always want to take LO and do stuff every time we go back and we never do. Now that this time we'll be there for a long weekend it's a perfect time to start!

Totally agree with @hilsy85: if you get there early, Smorgasburg is fine. I went just as it was opening one time, and the crowd was very thin and there were no lines!

@locavore_mama: smorgasburg is fun...but can get crazy crowded, especially if the weather is nice. If the older kids can be patient, then I think it would be fine with them...will your DH be with you? If so, someone can take your LO and any other kids who are bored to the park that is directly across from smorgasburg--it's a little toddler park with a slide and some climbing things. Smorgasburg is quite the experience though, especially for a foodie like you! Just bring cash :)

ETA I think if you got to smorgasburg right as it opened you would be fine--we've always gone later, around 1 or 2, and it's kind of a madhouse at that point.

And I agree that the water lab can get crowded, but if you do that then smorgasburg you'll probably be fine. And then after smorgasburg you could do one of the other playgrounds right there (the sandbox, the swings) or just sit on the grass and kick a ball around.

@locavore_mama: i have been to smorgasburg many times and maybe others have had different experiences but it. is. packed. It's on all the tourist recommendation lists now and it is a very popular spot. LIC food and flea is a little calmer from what i have seen.

@locavore_mama: just get to the waterlab early and it will be fine! By 11 or so, it's pretty crowded...

If you're going to be in or closer to queens, they have a smaller/less crowded flea market and food vendor thing in long island city. I personally think smorgasburg is a nightmare.

@locavore_mama: yup smoragsburg is in brooklyn bridge park on sundays from 11-5 or 6. I think on Saturdays it's in Williamsburg still.

@hilsy85: is smorgasbord near Brooklyn Bridge Park?? I don't want to make the the drive on a holiday weekend just for the water park. Lol Although we can technically go Sunday before my grandma's bash. It'll be on the way.

I have a soft spot in my heart for coney island too!! I wouldnt say the beach is "gross" albeit a little crowded. And the rides and games are so fun. Also the aquarium is there but you'd have to check if its fully open post-sandy damage.

The bronx zoo is great too! But the heat has been brutal in nyc the last few days so i'd keep an eye on the forecast.

Brooklyn Bridge park! There's a water park that is awesome (just voted time out's #1 best children's park), swings (including ones for older kids, not just baby ish stuff), huge sandbox village with water features...basically, stuff for both your LO and the older kids.

There's also a pop up pool there, although it can be a bit of a wait to get in I think. There is also a carousel up near Dumbo.

No, the beach is not gross. We live next door and are there all the time :) also there is a couple of awesome kids' museums - Brooklyn Children's museum and New York Hall of Science in Queens. The place in Queens has real rockets and is next to a huge park!

We've gone to Coney Island three times this summer and it's been great! We go early in the morning before it's crowded (around 9:30/10) and the beach is actually really nice. I think it used to be gross but they've cleaned it up. We don't bring very many beach toys - just some cups and a truck. There's a carousel and of course rides and roller coasters for the older kids.

We're going to be back next weekend and I want to take my 2yr old and niece (11) and nephews (7 & 11) to go do something fun.

Any suggestions?

I thought briefly about coney Island because it'll be fun to go to the beach for a bit but I don't want to travel with all her beach toys. Lol And is the beach near CI gross?

How far would the Bronx zoo be from Queens in holiday traffic??
