So we did just ergo, she was fine for a couple of hours but got cranky and hot in the store (she is always hot). I guess if i did this again i might do the ergo and stroller. I would keep the stroller folded on the train and keep her in the ergo and when she got cranky put her in the stroller. But i really appreciate all of you opinions. If was just a ride on the train without going into stores and lunch would just do ergo. I also agree no diaper bag just a diaper clutch is fine

I've never been able to do a whole outing in just a carrier. We bottle-fed so we needed to carry around more stuff than nursing moms, so hauling baby + diaper bag would have been more than I could handle on my own. When we're in NY (about once a month to visit family in Queens) we always take our gluxe.

I'm in Toronto but ride the subway all the time and the Ergo is SOOOOOO much easier than the stroller! Strollers make it seriously difficult and I don't know about NYC but here not all subway stations are stroller accessible with elevators and the like.

@bunnylove08: I would just Ergo it. Have you taken her out for longer walks/trips in the Ergo? At that age my LO liked to be in the carrier to look around at everything but she did have a limit so I'd make sure that I'd take her out of the carrier and give her breaks throughout the day if it was a whole day out.

It really depends on your baby...my LO lately has been fussy in the ergo if he's not sleeping, which means that I'm pacing up and down the subway car! I think he also gets over heated in it when we're on the train. But if your LO is happy to be in the ergo I would just do that. For us, I will probably start using the umbrella stroller once the weather. Warms up.

I agree with leaving the diaper bag if you can. The pocket on the ergo holds a few diapers and wipes...maybe that's all you would need for an afternoon?

Olive still fell asleep easily in the carrier at that age. I would leave the stroller!

@mrbee: My fear with the elevators was always that I would get stuck in one with a weirdo, and since the subway elevators tend to be slow, that would make for a loooong ride!

Oh and I would see if you could leave the diaper bag at home... maybe just grab the essentials (a few diapers, some wipes and some snacks) and slip them into your jacket.

I also live in New York City, and what kills me about the strollers is the elevators... they always smell like pee! I usually just end up just carrying the strollers up and down the stairs, to avoid the pee smell...

Ergo. The thing about NYC subways is that there are often many stairs so even though the G-Luxe is relatively light, it might be a pain to carry it.

I would leave it... At 5 months, they are still pretty content in the Ergo in my experience. Plus if you are meeting your sister, then she could help by at least carrying your diaper bag for you? I would only bring a stroller if there was lots of walking involved, like over 20-30 city blocks. But even then, I might not.

I have the G-Luxe, and yes it's light, but not that light when you add a baby, a diaper bag and flights of stairs in the mix. Being free of those 11 lbs makes a big difference in my opinion.

Ok moms,

I'm going into the city with my 5 month old and we're taking the train. I was going to put her in my ergo and bring a diaper bag but now I'm thinking I should bring my uppa baby g-lux (11lbs) And ergo her with me just in case dd gets fussy or she gets heavy. I'm meeting my sister and then we're heading out to queens to my day's house.

What do you think being the stroller too or leave it and go with the ergo.
