@mrsjazz: that's great. I've used our snugride for two babies and definitely think it's a great purchase for city living if you decide to go the infant carseat route! my first used it til 10 months! The stroller frame is great too for the city. I made sure to get it for the 2nd baby and it's been put to really good use the past 5 months.

ETA: is your baby going to be a winter baby? If so, just know that the snugride has no fitted rain cover/wind protector. I bought a used one from Maxi Cosi and it fits perfectly. UppaBaby also makes a cabana that would fit it too. Definitely a must in cold weather!

@NYCaliMama: @LivsMama: I just looked up the Graco Snug Ride on Babies R Us and they have a sale on the Snug car seat stroller when you buy the car seat. And it's top-rated on Baby Bargains, so I think I may go with this one for now.

Thanks, everyone.

@ Mrs. Bee, does the Combi Cocoro seat work for newborns too?

I would also say the combi coccoro or the Graco Snugride. I live in NYC but do have a car-however when we fly, we take the Snugride with us as its very easy to install in a car without a base so we dont have to travel with it (yes it is safe and yes it is designed to do that. I took a course from The Car Seat Lady and was shocked, but the instructions are right in there.)

That being said, I only suggested the combi coccoro bc the Car Seat Lady here in NYC suggested it to us as an alternative, but we'd already purchased the snugride

To note - the snugride can be pretty heavy. Not sure what the coccoro weighs

We use the Graco snugride infant carseat in cabs (without the base).. And with the coordinating snap n go stroller which is easy to pop in the trunk since it's so light.

When my first DD outgrew that at 10 months, we got the Sit n Stroll, which is basically a toddler carseat on wheels.

the combi coccoro. we zipcar a lot and don't have a car either. this is a lightweight convertible car seat and very easy to install.

I would say just a regular infant car seat. You can take the base in and out really easy and then the car seat just snaps in.

When I traveled to Las Vegas with DS when he was an infant, I took my car seat and it worked out great. The car seat I had with DS was similar to this:

http://www.google.com/imgres?um=1&hl=en&sa=N&biw=1680&bih=935&tbm=isch&tbnid=vaK_z5d4Dh2aCM:&imgrefurl=http://www.findmycarseat.com/evenflo-car-seats/&docid=bCnxD1eg-Gkz7M&imgurl=http://www.findmycarseat.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/51azi2bgjstl__sl500_aa280_.jpg&w=280&h=280&ei=ecTaTtbfNO7QiAKhzs2_BA&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=339&vpy=260&dur=1394&hovh=224&hovw=224&tx=122&ty=106&sig=107513957535671582848&page=1&tbnh=138&tbnw=138&start=0&ndsp=38&ved=1t:429,r:1,s:0

I'm also interested in hearing these answers. We have a car, but I'll be traveling to NY and don't know what we're going to do for a car seat while we're there.

I'm trying to figure out what car seat to put on my registry. We take public transportation, but we're also Zip Car members for the times we do need a car. And of course, we cab it sometimes.

We're not planning on buying a car anytime soon, does anyone have a recommendation for a car seat that won't be used that often and won't be used in the same type of vehicle?
