You could ask the doctor's office to write it up as a diagnostic screening ... Like any other lab work. Then, it should be covered at 100% or whatever your payment typically is (ours is 30%).

Thank you all! Because I probably dont ovulate on the same day each month, which could be causing my irregular periods, they just told me to come in 8 days after I ovulate.

My insurance covered testing but nothing after that, so I think that your blood work should be covered. I go to an RE and my testing was still covered because my doctor is an "in network" provider.

I've never heard it called O+8, but I have had this type of test. Many times it is on CD 21, but mine was on CD 23 because I ovulate late. All it did was confirm ovulation. Since ovulation was confirmed, my doctor didn't make any adjustments to my treatment and told me to keep trying. As far as billing, if you have it done at your obgyn it will probably be covered by insurance. If you go to an RE, your testing may not be covered.

I'm in Canada so our system is different, but during my own struggle with infertility I chatted with lots of American bees, and often it seemed that their insurance covered testing, but not treatment, and it really depended how their dr billed. I'd imagine something like bloodwork would fall into the testing category, or put into more of a "general health" category as having hormones in check is important for more than fertility.

Anyone have any idea about what it will cost me? I have to admit that I don't really look at the billing info for other things, because with the double coverage, what I owe is usually $0.

They are going to check your progesterone levels to see if you are actually ovulating.

My husband and I have been TTC for 6 months and I have had kind of irregular periods, anywhere from 24-32 days, but nothing too crazy! Anyways, at about 5 months, I had a Dr's apt and when I asked about she said that as long as I was starting my period 14 days after I ovulate then it wasn't a problem. Well, on cycle 6 I used OPK's for the first time, and it looks like I started my period 10-11 days after I ovulated. I called in today and they want me to come in and get a blood draw 8 days after I ovulate. I didn't ask very many questions, and was hoping that you ladies could tell me a little about what they are looking for. Also, I am double covered with insurance, but neither of our plans have any fertility coverage, anyone have an idea how much these tests normally run?

Thank you for any info that you may have!
