I get it, but I really think ranting about work, regardless of profession, is unacceptable.

E t a ... Changed not acceptable to unacceptable... Duh!

@thepinksuperhero: AGHH! As a doula that bugs the heck out of me. I would never post personal information about a client unless she gave me permission.

I specifically asked my last client before I posted anything about how long the labor was (a "48 hour labor, I'm so tired so I can't even imagine how she must feel" kind of post), without her name in the post.

@dagret: It's nice to see someone spell HIPAA right for once, lol! I'm in insurance and one of my products has to do with HIPAA laws and even my bosses sometimes spell it "HIPPA" lol! I know, I"m a huge nerd ;)

I think this is not only unprofessional, it's also just annoying to hear someone complain like that on FB about their job. Whenever I see something like that I think "Well, you know you didn't have to go to Med school and become a Dr.".. But yes, depending on what she's saying it could totally be a HIPAA violation or at least get her fired from her practice. It's definitely in very poor taste to complain about your patients like that.

Funny, the doula I know is the biggest oversharer! Intimate details of the birth (how long the labor was, what drugs were used, tearing, etc). Bad manners aren't confined or excluded from any profession!

I'm relieved to hear this isn't typical. I plan to hide/unfriend her as soon as our friend's wedding is over. I'm not stressing over what she posts but I find them very interesting. I usually think to myself, "and that's why you had a doula."

Any colleague I've ever seen post about patients has been fired or severely reprimanded. If there is any information that might potentially identify the patients, then there is a HIPPA violation.

It's up to you whether you report her to her office managers, but I fully understand your discomfort! It's not the kind of discomfort that would lead me to think of a home birth... I know that not every doc thinks that way :)

Yup, that's crazy. I'm a teacher and have a million teacher friends. The MOST anyone will say about work/kids are like...quotes about working hard, or saying they are counting the days till summer. NEVER particulars, like "boy it sucks to have a class with 8 kids below reading level, 4 special Ed kids, 3 kids with emotional disorders, and 2 kids with serious behavior issues. Can't wait till I never have to these kids again" or something like that.

wow. so unprofessional. i can't imagine DH or any of our friends in the medical field (therapists, nurses, etc) writing anything negative about a patient, even without any "identifying information," as they say. so sorry you've been seeing that!

I think that's awful! I have a few friends who are doctors and they NEVER post anything patient related. The worst I ever see from them is complaining about sleeping at the hospital because of never ending shifts.

I agree, unprofessional at best, illegal at worst. No one I know in the medical field posts things about patients on facebook. As far as future babies though, don't let this lady make you think all doctors are like that.

That could be interpreted as a HIPAA violation, even if she doesn't name any names or identifying characteristics. A hospital near me fired a slew of nurses for doing the exact same thing.

That's so unprofessional. I am a social worker who works for an OB/pediatrician team and would never complain about our patients on social media, and neither do they. Occasionally one of them will post a cute non-identifying post like 'so happy to see some baby giggles this morning' but that's it.

That's horrible! My MWs have often posted when they're at a birth but it's never been in a negative light! Even when she was called to a birth in the middle of the night (often requiring a 2 he drive to the mom) it was always like "no better reason to get up than delivering babies" or something along those lines.

That scares me for her mommas.... I wonder how many ended up with unnecessary interventions or even unnecessary stress bc she was tired of waiting... :(

Wow. Very off-putting.
I understand patients can be tiring, but what she is doing is extremely unprofessional. One can argue, it is her personal Facebook and personal time, but still: it is in bad taste at best.
I am a social worker (currently unemployed SAHM); it would in *no way* be okay for me to go around on social media and tell people how annoyed I am that my clients are still in poverty or that they need to start taking their meds. Um, is that not *my* job to help them? Just like it is her job to be there for her patients, no matter the length of time it takes. :(

I met a woman recently at a friend's party. Turns out she's an OB. She was really into playing with LO and we chatted about my birth a little bit. After the party she friended me and DH on Facebook to share pictures of that event and our friend's upcoming wedding.

While she seems very nice she posts vents about her patients a lot. Nothing personal or graphic, mainly complaining that they're taking too long in labor and she wants to go home so badly. I get that she's just letting off steam but it's pretty off putting to me. It's making me consider a home birth for #2 (if we get there some day).
