@rahlyrah: I just saw this.

I posted about a month ago about a really rude doctor at my practice who told me that based on that month's weight gain (9 lbs or something) that I was on track to gain 50 lbs, that I would never lose it, would have a hard time delivering, would develop gestational diabetes, and would face a lifetime of type 2 diabetes and heart disease.

Nope, I'm not kidding. I'm about 2 weeks behind you and I've already gained 25 lbs. Which is obviously not good, but...whatever. I've made my peace with it. I'd just lost about 15-18 lbs before my wedding, and I think my body was eager to gain it back when I stopped being active (due to my MS) the whole first trimester. So while most people gain nothing in the first tri, I gained 15 lbs by week 17 or something.

Yup. Awesome.

Anyway, this past month, I gained only 2 lbs, and that was in spite of the 7 day babymoon I just went on at an all-inclusive where I ate everything I wanted. So clearly, my weight gain is evening out and slowing down. If I continue gaining only 2 lbs a month, by the time I deliver I'll have gained less than 35 lbs, which was my goal.

So....long story short. F them. I mean, really. My weight gain might not have happened at the "correct" time, but who cares.

My blood pressure is always good, my GD test was great. He can suck it, as far as I'm concerned.

Edited to say: I'm 27 weeks now.

Thanks ladies! The female OB is amazing and takes the time to get to know her patients. The male is known as a douche (but a terrific OB). I'm just gonna take what he says with a grain of salt.

Seriously, I just wouldn't even worry about it! Being weighed at different times of the day change the measurement, what you have eaten what you have has to drink. Weight gain, as long as its not crazy, shouldn't stress you out. Just enjoy your pregnancy, whether you gain 20 or 50lbs or measure really far ahead is nothing in comparison to the LO you will meet soon! :-)

Ugh, so annoying.

My midwife says that she's much more concerned with patients who don't gain enough as opposed to those who gain too much (within reason). And even having said that, you have not gained too much.

He sounds like he doesn't take enough time to familiarize himself with each patient's chart before opening his mouth.

I got the same speech! Argh! I gained a ton my second trimester. My third I've barely gained anything. I think as long as you eat a sensible balanced diet, your body is going to do what it's going to do, be that 20 lbs or 60. Pregnancy is weird!

I feel like weight taken at the prenatal appointments is not always accurate and is somewhat inconsistent depending on the nurse and what you're wearing and what time of day it is. I always look at it as an estimate because a lot of the nurses don't even wait till the needle (?) stops bouncing.

It sounds as if the male doctor is also telling you that you've gained too much without really looking at your chart to see what week of pregnancy you even are!

for my 1st pregnancy i gained 40lbs! it was also pretty uneven in that some weeks i gained 8 lbs and other weeks i gained almost nothing, or lost weight! it was all kind of crazy :)

I gained most in the middle end of my 2nd tri and the beginning of 3rd tri.

We'll see what happens with this second pregnancy!

I did gain non-baby weight, too though. I think my legs and arms got a bit thicker and so I guess I wasn't all belly :)

As long as your vitals look well, you're taking care of yourself, and eating well, I wouldn't worry about the number on the scale. My MW didn't tell me anything until I hit 50lb just because she knew the more weight I gained the harder it could be on me in labor... which is hard enough work on it's own.

I'd take what he said with a grain of salt or even ask him.. Well do my b/p & urine look okay?!..... I'm sure as long as those look okay the bubs & I are fine!

disclaimer: obgyns aren't usually my favorite people. =/

So, my OB office has two OB's, one who I love and one who I can't stand. I am forced to see both and switch off each appointment.

Last time I saw the male OB (the one I don't like) he told me I wasn't gaining enough weight and needed to eat more. Ok. No problem.

The next month I went and saw the female OB and she said I gained 9 pounds! Whoa! That seemed like a lot to me but I had went on a cruise so it was possible. I said I would cut back.

Today, I saw the male again. He said I gained another 7 pounds. This seems so off to me! I really don't eat that much (I am easily full) and I still work out. He continues to tell me that I am gaining too much weight (21 lbs total) and that I shouldn't gain anymore weight until I am in my 3rd trimester. Umm...I AM in my third trimester! I questioned the weight gain and he nonchalantly said that not all of their scales are calibrated so they could be off by a few pounds. Well, that would make a huge difference wouldn't it? I mean, 4 pounds sounds pretty reasonable.

He then measures my belly and said that my belly was measuring too big as well. Then he looked at my chart again and said, "Oh. Nevermind. Your belly is measuring right where it should be."

This confuses me even more because I am ALL BELLY. It literally looks like I have a soccer ball under my dress. I haven't gained weight anywhere else. You can't even tell I am pregnant from behind. So, how can I be gaining all this weight if my belly is normal?

I'm just annoyed, and confused, and not sure if I should be embarrassed.

Can someone else please share their weight gain woes to make me feel better?
