I did a lot of this kind of care as a college student! If you have a university near you you may be able to tap into that network!

@blackbird: My company is me and 3 other guys. There no policy, lol! My boss is fine with it. I'm more of a consultant and I can set my own hours. Lucky, I know.

Won't you need child care or a nanny for when you're WFH? Or will your DH be able to care for LO while you work?

we use a sitting service - they exist! we just call ahead and book them on whatever day we need. they're a bit more expensive than a traditional sitter, but cheaper than committing to a regular schedule if you don't have a regular schedule.

In home daycares are a lot more flexible!

Also check on your company's WAH policy-even if we work from home, we are expected to have daycare or a nanny.

@macintosh: Definitely join NPN. It's worth it. In terms of Facebook groups, I would search your FB for the Oak Park one. MamaTribe Chicago is the biggest one. I belong to a neighborhood one that's connected us with a lot of parents locally.

@cascademom: I had to google NPN, but what a great idea! I've been wondering how I might connect with other local moms and I see there is an Oak Park group. I'm close enough to OP for that to work.

@spaniellove: I have used care.com before to find a caregiver for DH. It was pretty easy to find someone but it was a huge bummer when we got attached to the person and she quit with no notice after a few months. My big concern is that my appointments so far have been at all hours of the day and evening, not on a regular schedule. It was hard enough to get someone to show up for my husband on a regular schedule.

I struggled with the logistics of this and settled on a babysitter who is qualified and has the right amount of availability. It took a long time to find her through care.com but she's worth it. My only regret is that we don't have the resources to ask her to come over as often as I'd like!

Most places offer 3 or 5 day care. You should be able to find part time care. Check out NPN or one of the mommy facebook groups for suggestions.

Until recently I have been working from home exclusively and I had been expecting to work from home exclusively after giving birth. Suddenly (poof!) I got a promotion that involves me doing field work at schools around the Chicago area.

I know my boss won't have a problem with me working from home a majority of the time after LO is born, but I know I may need to find child care for some situations. DH is doing well enough to stay home on his own, but I don't think he can handle and infant by himself at this point.

I had a hard enough time finding and keeping an affordable caregiver for DH when he needed full time care. I can only imagine finding occasional care for an infant would also be difficult.

I can't currently afford daycare unless it is very part time, but I imagine most centers have minimums. I don't have any family nearby. Has anyone had a similar situation? What was your strategy for finding occasional but reliable child care?
