Bubbles, snacks are great. What about sidewalk chalk, small toys, puzzles, coloring books, balls, balloon games, run on the grass, hide and seek a toy. 30 mins can go by quickly.

Thanks everyone. We did alright yesterday. The pool was outside (its tented in the winter and I wasn't sure if the tent would still be up). There were some stairs leading to a grassy area and a dog wondering around. Those things kept DS pretty happy. DD stayed focused on her lesson and did really well.

I was surprised by my boss being there with his kid. Just a little extra pressure to get my kids to behave. Next time I think I'll bring some bubbles and snacks for the grassy area.

Not quite the same thing, but my 2 year old comes with us to my 5 year old's karate class every week. At the beginning, I would hold him and walk around with him, keeping him entertained. Soon enough, he was like @Freckles: mentioned- totally content cuddling on my lap and watching the other kids. I thought it would be way worse than it actually is!

Any chance to take the youngest for a walk outside during the lesson? Or that in the future you can get a babysitter for little one?

My youngest is the same age and he would yell that he wants to go in the water in the same situation. Our first solution was that we don't bring him, then switched to a parent/child class for him at the same time...and entire family goes every time.

I'm lucky because DS is content snuggling with me and he loves watching the kids swim. The first time i brought him to DD's lesson, i brought a bunch of books and read to him. The second time he just sat on my lap and watched the kids.

We take swim lessons at a place where there's a separate waiting room for parents and siblings with one-way mirrored glass. DD1 can't see whether DD2 is reading or playing endless alphabet or whatever. At her gymnastics class it's trickier. I usually bring a little backpack of activities for the 45 minutes of class time (a travel color wow desk, new library books, a magnadoodle, a hot wheels car), and if she's been patient, her reward is the phone for the last 10-15 minutes when DD1's class has free play on this giant play structure block pit thing at the back of the gym. Honestly, playing with the water fountain is her favorite activity there!

Yeah, we stopped doing swim lessons because of this. Weekend only for us now, or we'll do one for the little sister too.

This ks exactly why I am probably going to do swim lessons on a weekend. It sounds exhausting! But hopefully people have some good ideas I can steal!

Btw in addition to the phone problem you stated, I would also not want my kids to have my phone anywhere near water!

How do you do it?

DD is starting swim lessons tonight and I have to bring DS (almost 2) with me. 6:00-6:30pm. DH doesn't get home until closer to 7pm. What do I bring to entertain DS? I'm afraid he's going to jump in the pool (I'm not sure where we have to be/can be in relation to the pool). I'm also worried that if he gets to watch something on my phone DD will get out of the pool to watch. That's what happened with dance class. No food allowed at the pool. Ideas needed. How do you other mamas do it?
