@SleepyMonkey: have you tried mixing it with breastmilk? Maybe start out with 75% BM & 25% cow's milk and slowly get her used to it.

@mrsjyw: I guess a lot of mamas are dealing with this too! Phew. I'm going to ask the pedi at her 12 month appt about it. I was planning on weaning her by then but I think it's going to be tough to transition to whole milk since she is such a little boob monster. My nanny has tried everything to get her to drink milk. Feeding her with a spoon, using various cups, etc. LO refuses them all. Causing mama a lot of stress!

@SleepyMonkey: i'm right there with you!! i'm really concerned about him not getting enough milk!! I think he gets probably 6-8 oz in our am session, 6-8 while i'm gone, and then probably 5 at bedtime? he eats a TON of solids, so i'm wondering if i should cut back and increase more milk?

@SleepyMonkey: it varies at daycare. He has days of not eating or drinking much and days where he'll eat a ton but milk intake is still low. He eats a lot of cheese and bread. :/ and some meat and fruit and veggies.

@SleepyMonkey: Maybe she's just transitioning to more of a solids-based diet, like we're "supposed" to do around 12 months anyway... I haven't spoken to my ped about it in great detail, but I think she mentioned something about 17oz of milk and the rest of his food from solids once they are a year. L is just being precocious!

@katsupgirl: yeah, i nurse twice after i get home. once right away, then before bed. i figure she drinks 5 oz in the morning nurse...6 oz while i'm away...and then i hope 4 oz at each session in the evening. so almost 20 oz in the best case scenario? maybe 15 oz in the worst case? i have no idea.

@mrskc: she definitely has upped her solid intake at lunch and dinner on the weekdays, and you're right, i nurse every 3-4 hours on the weekends and she is not as hungry for solids. is he eating hearty solids while you are away? like lots of meats and high fat dairy? or is it mostly veggies?

i guess i am just stressed out by it, but my husband isn't worried at all.

@SleepyMonkey: This is happening with my son too. He will only drink 6-8 ounces while I'm at work. But he does eat a lot more solids while there. Then on weekends he seems to nurse more and eat less solids.

@scg00387: i'm actually glad to hear that someone else's LO is dropping a nurse. my nanny just started this week and LO REFUSES to take a bottle from her, so she doesn't get one until mid afternoon when my mom comes to visit and she gives it to her. i nurse in the morning, and then she only drinks 6 oz while i'm away at work and i'm freaking out that she is starving. the nanny feeds her a lot at breakfast and lunch, but i still feel nervous about it. every day i am examining her legs to see if they've gotten skinnier!

@hilsy85: I think I will keep offering, its not like it hurts anything I guess. I just found myself trying to force the issue earlier, which surprised me... because I've never really stressed about him nursing enough before and he makes himself quite clear when he isn't interested. It just seems so odd to think of him dropping to 3X in 24 hours :/ I'd rather he weaned on his own terms in general but.. eep!

@Tidybee: thanks, that is helpful!!

@scg00387: I personally would just keep offering 4x a day for another month at least...you might find that he'll take the other side during a growth spurt or whatever, and I was always paranoid about making sure I offered breastmilk as many times as he would take it in order to make sure he was getting enough (since I only nursed as well and have no idea of ounces).

I'm going to ask here too since y'all are a month ahead-

He's ten months and I nurse so I have no clue how much he is taking in in ounces.

LO nurses 6:30 11 3:30 and 6:30 with three solids meals and lately had been refusing one side at the 11 am nurse session. I don't know if I should try to push it back/try to condense the 11 & 3 into one? Or just keep offering 4x a day until he is 12 m?

Maybe it's a growth spurt, but my little DD is a freakin vacuum cleaner. I feel like she's eating too much but she is hungry and lunging for food! Maybe she is kind of over the purees? DD still isn't crawling yet but loves to pull up and stand. Here is a typical schedule for her:
5:30 - nurse
7ish - egg yolk and toast and blueberries
9am - 4 oz fruit + 1 oz oatmeal
10:30 - 6-7 oz bottle
12:30 - 4 oz jar of food
2:30 - 6-7 oz bottle
4:30 - 4 oz jar of fod
6:30ish - pieces of our dinner: usually meat, mashed veg, and some fruit in her mesh feeder
7:30 - nurse

I still love watching AJ eat new foods. We gave him some peach last night for the first time. Every time he tries something new he's unsure of, he gives this funny face and then shakes his head in disgust. lol He dropped the peach and went for the apple. This kid is obsessed with apples.

7:15: handful of Cherrios or Puffs while I get ready
9:00: Pouch of food or oatmeal with fruit & 4-6 oz bottle
Morning Nap
12: Lunch: veggie and pieces of whatever serving & 4 oz bottle
Nap
3: bottle 8 oz.
6: Dinner - pouch of food, pieces of what we are having, puffs/cheerios

@Beehive: our schedule looks like this:
wake up at 6:30 ish, nurse
solids around 7:30
nurse around 8:00/8:30
nurse around 11:00
solids around 11:30/12:00
nurse around 1:00
nurse around 3:00
nurse around 5:00
solids around 530/6:00
nurse around 7:00/715 for bed

I worried that eating solids around 6 wouldn't leave him hungry enough for nursing again at 7, but he still will, plus take another 1.5-2oz from a bottle.

You guys are all so great with the solids! I think we need to work on it more...

We have only been doing 2 meals a day of solids, a breakfast of 2oz fruit puree (sometimes mixed with yogurt) and lunch of 4oz vegetables or 2oz vegetables with some chicken "puree". He still has 5 feedings of breastmilk a day (morning and before bed from me, and 3 bottles during the day of 6-7oz or so each).

We haven't started doing dinner solids yet - his last two breastmilk feedings are kind of close together - 5:30 and 7:30 - so I don't see how we can fit solids in there. I'm worried if he has solids he won't have as much milk at his last feeding? Today he left a few oz in his 5:30 bottle - maybe that feeding should be 4oz milk followed by some solids? How do you guys space out milk and solids?

i think L is a little behind on her solids compared to your babies! she gets about 2 oz of purees or yogurt 3x/day, and a little bit of water but she doesn't like water all that much. we try to feed her bits of what we are eating but she isn't terribly interested in chunks of food yet, i don't think. she nurses 6x a day.

0800: 2ounces of rice cereal made with soy formula
2000: 8.5 ounces of formula

Miss A isn't a big eater of purées or spoon foods but she goes to town on finger food and will shove as much food in her mouth as she can! She's still nursing at least five times a day (usually between six and eight sessions) but we do three meals and a snack each day.

We do porridge and fruit for breakfast but usually only four or five small spoonfuls, her and I share a finger food lunch (scrambled eggs, sandwiches, fruit, cheese, crackers, leftovers etc) and then she eats whatever we're eating for tea which is most often some sort of meat and vegetables. We've also just started doing an afternoon snack of crackers and fruit.

Plenty of food still ends up on the floor (we have a very lucky and well fed dog!) but she's definitely eating some food based on what comes out again :-0

She was already naked so I just stood her up and dumped a pitcher of water on her to get the juice off when she was done. She loved it and I think she ate more than she would have in her highchair. Play, dinner and bath in one.

@mrskc: I'm with you. Little Miss Miss is going to be 9 months next week. I'm so slack with solids.

She gets about 11-12 ounces of BM while I'm at work. Sometimes up to 16 if she's fussy.

I give her solids randomly.

@sorrycharlie: Everything inedible and most things edible are on the floor here! Even if she likes it she'll take a bite, throw it, I'll pick it up, wash it off, she takes another bite... Is she old enough to be manipulating me? If I didn't give it back I don't think she'd eat anything. Ugh.

@TurtleDoves: So cute by the way!

Here is a typical day for us. DD LOVES her purees but still gags a lot on actual solid food. She has just graduated to some soft fruits (melon, blueberries, and banana) so hopefully she'll get the hang of it soon. She'll be 8 months on Friday (born 10/28).
7am - wake up and nurse
9:00am - 1 oz. oatmeal with a 4 oz jar of fruit mixed in.
11:00 am - 6-7oz bottle of breastmilk
2:30 pm - 6-7 oz bottle of breastmilk
4:00 pm - 4 oz of baby food, either a jar of earth's best (she loves the chicken and sweet potato) or some ice cubes of veggies I made myself.
6:00ish - a chunk of fruit or a mummum
7:00pm - nurse

@TurtleDoves: LOL!! Olivia loves her prune juice but hates avocado. I can't stop laughing at the disappointed/disgusted look on his face.

@MrsF: seriously - everything that isn't edible hits the deck at our house. well, it usually hits the dog, who's hovering around the high chair. Olivia likes to fling her sippy across the room dramatically after every sip!!
