Here's my birth story since I finally had a few minutes to type it out:

I had an appointment on 10/20/2015 at 9am to check on the baby. I was hoping to avoid an induction but was already nine days overdue. They were going to let me go to 42 weeks if everything looked good. I had a NST and ultrasound. The baby was less reactive than they wanted, she wouldn’t demonstrate her breathing, and I hadn’t progressed any in the past week. On top of that, they were estimating her size at 9lb 5oz. They scheduled an induction for 7:30am for the next day. I was not at all excited and a bit disappointed but ate some good food and took some medicine to get some sleep that night.
I woke up around 5:30 to get ready to head to the hospital. We had scrambled eggs with cheese, bacon, and waffles. Then we said goodbye to LO1, packed up the car, and left. The ride to the hospital seemed both really long and really short. We went in and let them know we were there and soon after that, my nurse came to get me.
She took us to room 1508 and had me change into the gown. I got in bed and she came back in to go over all of the paperwork before they started the medications. She was very nice and told me that her and the midwife had talked about trying to let me go as natural as possible since I tried to avoid an induction as long as possible. She went to get something while I signed papers and when she came back, she looked kind of frustrated. Five women had come to the hospital in very active labor in the past hour and they had to push me back until a few had given birth. So they gave us coupons for the cafeteria and told me to go eat something. I had French toast and yogurt even though I wasn’t very hungry because I knew I wouldn’t be able to eat for a while.
When we got back up to the room, about an hour had passed and she said they could start my induction now. She hooked me up to the IV to start the fluids and my antibiotic. Then around 10:30, she started the Pitocin, the medicine I had always said I never wanted. She said it would take about an hour or two for things to become regular. The midwife came to check on me and go over again with me that I was in control of how things went as long as it was safe. She said if I wanted to stop the medicine to try to get my body to move on its own, I could. Then she checked and said I was at 3cm and about 70% effaced and would be back to check on me in a while.
I could feel light contractions but nothing painful or anything. We watched television and talked. My mom got there and then my brother and we hung out some more until they decided to get some lunch. I had some jello since that was all I could have. At around 2/2:30pm, the midwife came back to check on me again since my contractions were more regular and more uncomfortable, although still not painful. I was only at 4cm so she decided to break my water, which we had been avoiding to reduce pain and the risk of a c-section. It felt weird but didn’t hurt. They also set me up with a peanut exercise ball between my legs to help hold my hips open and hopefully move the baby down. I told my mom they had broken my water and that contractions were gradually getting more painful so she came back.
The contractions definitely started to pick up and I had to start breathing through them in no time. I had to ask the nurse to turn the Pitocin down because I had no breaks in contractions for about 20 minutes and was close to requesting the epidural. She gave me an IV pain medicine and turned it down. The edge was taken off of the pain and I had small breaks, which helped me feel like I could push through. The only thing I was worried about was that the midwife was predicting that it would be 9pm when the baby was born and I knew that was forever away, plus my nurse and the midwife would be off shift at 7pm and I really wanted them to stay until the end.
Contractions started to get incredibly painful around 5pm and the nurse gave me another shot of the IV pain meds. She also told me to tell her if I felt like pushing. I remember telling her around 5:20 that I felt like pushing and that with my first, that meant I was 8cm. I don’t think anyone thought I would be that far but the OB on call came to check me. I had two contractions back to back and then she determined I was indeed at 8cm at around 5:30. She said they would be back shortly because it wouldn’t be too much longer. I was trying so hard to just push through and I felt like I could definitely make it. At around 5:45, I told the nurse that I had to push and my hips were splitting. The midwife came in to check a few minutes later but when I told her I had to push even worse now, she skipped the cervical check and said we could go. They flipped me onto my back and didn’t even bother to drop the end of the bed off, she just told me to push as effectively as I could. I could feel so much more with this one than with my first for some reason and I just kept pushing. I felt her coming out and they placed her on my chest in no time. She cried after a few seconds, delayed a little by the meconium in my water. I was so happy to see her and so emotional that I just kept kissing her and looking at her.
I ended up with a postpartum hemorrhage that they were able to get under control with the use of four medications and by pressing on my abdomen. They had it under control in about 20 minutes though. I also learned when things settled down that I had only pushed for a max of maybe 5 minutes. They gave us bonding time for a while before measuring her and weighing her. In the end, Coraline Lily was born at 5:58pm on 10/21/2015. She was 8lb 5oz (the exact same as her older sister) and 20.25in long. I had wanted to avoid an induction so bad but the experience wasn’t so bad after all. The team of people I had around me was amazing and it was an incredible experience. We've had a few issues since birth with feeding but everyone is happy and healthy.

@Charm54: omg sooo similar! That's crazy! I also was terrified of going med free towards the end bc I was so nervous about pushing with out meds and the stitches, etc. but all in all it wasn't as scary as I imagined.

@NovBaby1112: Our birth stories are so similar, and on the same day too!

Here's my story before I forget all the details:

Dh took the day off work last Weds so he could come to my 40 week apt. I was "1+" cm but head was very low...I was bummed I was only that far dilated because I had been having cramps/contractions for weeks. She did a "good sweep" which I hoped would get things moving.

All afternoon and through the evening I was very crampy but this was nothing new. At 1:00am I woke up with contractions. I had a shower and cleaned the kitchen. At 2:00am I woke DH up and said I *thought* it might be it. He called my mom and she came over. By 3:30 I was having trouble breathing through them so both Dh and my mom convinced me that we should go to the hospital. I had an irrational fear of being sent back home and told I was in false labor.

I got to the hospital around 4:00am and they checked me - I was just 2cm. DD's labor had been 32 hours so I thought I was in for a very long day.

After that everything is a blur. The contractions got very painful, I threw up, lost the rest of my mucous plug, and asked for an epi. They checked me at 6:00am and said I was "3+" and they wanted me to wait until I was at 4 to get the epi. They gave me some laughing gas which just made me more sick so I only took a few breaths.

At 6:45am I was having pain beyond anything I had ever felt and was screaming that I needed an epi. They checked me again and I was 8+. I felt an unbearable need to push, but everyone was yelling at me not to push because the Dr was not yet at the hospital. Dh started calling our families to come to the hospital - they had wanted to be in the waiting room for the birth.

Around 6:55 the Dr came running in and I begged and pleaded for an epi. She told me there was no time and I would have to go without it. I was so scared because a med-free birth had never been my wish - I loved the epi with DD so much. I was scared of "the ring of fire" that everyone talks about, scared of being stitched up afterwards - basically I was scared out of my mind. DH was an amazing support and kept me focused as much as he could.

Literally as the Dr sat down and put her gloves on, my water broke all over her (poor thing!) haha. 4 minutes later and only 3 pushes, DD was here. DH looked at me and said "it's a girl!!" It was only 3 hours from the time I arrived at the hospital to the time she made her appearance. She came so quickly that none of our family members made it to the hospital in time...but it was probably a good thing in the end because I don't think my mother could have handled hearing my screams toward the end.

After she was all cleaned up and the hoopla was over, DH asked me if I wanted to give her the middle name Maeve - Maeve has been my absolute favourite name forever, but Dh doesn't really care for it so I had given up on it long ago. That was the biggest act of love and made me melt.

Miraculously I didn't need stitches and recovery has been 1000000x easier than it was with DD1. I don't know if I would ever want to go through that med-free pain again, but I feel very lucky that it was quick and she was born happy and healthy.

@jodyblair: I thought i would see how far I could get without an epi bc with my first I got it too early and my labor was sooo long and once we got to the pushing part I was exhausted. But I didn't think I'd actually be able to do it all the way!

@hellobeeboston: haha it was one of those "wow I really surprised myself but omg never ever again"! Moments :silly:

Can't wait to hear more October baby births!

Here is my birth story...Christ!an Ol!iver was born on 10/1 at 9:51am weighing 7lbs 1oz. I had a doctors appointment Wednesday and found out I was 3cm dilated and head was very low still. I felt very crampy after my check- I'm not sure if it was a rough check or she swept my membranes but the crampiness continued throughout the day. I started noticing some spotting into the evening hours as well. Around midnight I realized the cramps were Turning into contractions about 10-15 minutes apart, but I wasn't sure if it was just another false alarm or not. By 3am I thought it was the real deal as they got to be about 7 mins apart. I didn't want to arrive at hospital too early, so waited until 5am and at that point they were 5 mins apart but not incredibly painful or anything. Got to hospital and I was 4cm and a little bummed I wasn't further along. After about an hour of just hanging out, the contractions picked up a lot and I decided to go into the birth tub which was amazing....the hot water felt so good and really helped me progress. Around 9am I was checked again and was 8cm....decided to get out of the tub and go back to room just in case it was going to happen soon. This is when the contractions intensified and I could barely stand it and was begging for an epidural but the epi guy was in an operation. This part was probably the worst pain of my life, but thanks god it wasn't long. Shortly after my water broke and I felt an incredible urge to push so I just started pushing...and baby was out 3 pushes later!
