My son (3yo) is known to wear the purple princess dress every day. He loves it. He’s in a class of mostly girls and they all dress up so he decided to join them and now it’s his thing. Not that the reason matters, I guess.<br /> Well at the cocktail party a few weeks back one of the dads said to my husband “that’s not normal. Something is wrong. I’m a doctor, and if that was my kid I’d be seeking help and telling the teachers not to let him do that”.<br /> My husband was SHOCKED. He’s usually not at a loss for words but he was this time. I think he just said “well I think that’s a little harsh” but he had literally just met this guy like an hour before. So he just didn’t know what to say. Of course in hind sight he’s thought of perfect comebacks. Haha. But anyway, people are assholes sometimes and your husband shouldn’t feel bad that he didn’t say the best thing in the moment. He can always go back and say it now, too! This guy is a parent in another classroom who we’ll have very limited contact with, so it’s not worth it for us to go and say something. But if it was a family member we spoke to or saw a lot I think we would.<br /> And what he thinks being a doctor has to do with anything is beyond me. And, he’s 3. I think it’s a little early to be making assessments no matter what your “qualifications”. And who cares, why is that “wrong” or a “problem”? Just so bad in so many levels.<br /> It still makes me mad but then...I consider the source. He said my son isn’t normal but a normal adult would never say something like that about a 3yo playing dress up with his classmates. ALL CHILDREN ARE NORMAL. All children are perfect. No matter what challenges they may face, they are pure perfection. </p> <p>I broke out into a crying rage because I just couldn't believe it. I just needed to vent. </p>
