@travelgirl1: we did it at home and on the first day of daycare, they flipped out and made us bring underwear. We used really really loose boxer briefs (size 5, LO usually wears 3T) as underwear to appease them and it worked out for LO. About a week and a half into training, we introduced Sesame Street briefs in 4T and he's done well with those too!

@wonderstruck: Ohhh, that's interesting about the looser underwear having less accidents. I need to look into that!

Yes. We tried to skip it but had to go back and do it, made a difference for sure. And when Isis buy him underwear, I found that even though he's 2 and in 2T clothes, he's much more accident prone in the2T/3T underwear. Got some 4T that were quite loose and he's way better about not going in them.

@jh524: we didn't. He was very good about telling us when he needed too from the beginning. But it sounds helpful if they aren't.

@Foodnerd81: I'll go look for the book as well!

Do any of you set "potty check" timers? A friend mentioned it. You set them on the toilet every 20 minutes or something?

@Foodnerd81: yeah we sent her in leggings so it would catch the poop more then shorts. But they were really worried if she was sitting and she would poop. Luckily she pooped while standing up so it wasn't an issue (she didn't have a pee accident that day). But the director made sure to tell me to not send her in a dress. Duh!

@jh524: I have the same fear. Or poop smeared into the couch or something. Picking up the Oh Crap book from the library tomorrow so hoping that eases my worries. :)

@Smurfette: I was wondering how day cares felt about no undies. I'm so used to doing a diaper plus a diaper cover or shorts when she wears a dress! I can't picture just nothing!

Yes, going commando was key for DS. We did it for 3 or 4 days and then he was OK with underwear. When we tried to do underwear on day 2 he immediately peed in them. Twice.

@jh524: it's supposed to be to do with muscle memory. If they have something tight like underwear on, it feels like a diaper so their body relaxes. Naked, they are aware they don't have their safety net.

I did not specifically follow this method but we had DS naked from the waist down for weeks anytime we were home. Loose pants or shorts when we were out. I didn't introduce undies for a couple months I think.

We did commando for three days. We had been working on potty training off and on for a couple months before though. Then had boot camp Labor Day weekend. Day care wasn't thrilled with commando on Tuesday, so we tried panties on Wednesday and she did great that whole week. This week, she has had a couple accidents.

We're in the 5th week of PT and DS is still going commando. I think I could add in underwear at this point, but it's hot and it's not like he really needs to wear them at this point. I think he only had a few accidents once we added in the clothing over the first week. After that, he was good.

Did you do the whole clothes but no underwear thing?

LO is potty trained IF she is naked. Clothes or underwear make her poop apparently. A lot! She doesn't have many dresses to do the no underwear thing successfully. I put leggings without underwear on her today and she deposited the poop she'd saved up over the last few days in them pretty quickly. I guess the point is you put loose clothes on them? But I'd rather deal with poop in underwear than clothes. Sigh.
