@Kitkat: it was much easier with my first when we lived in a condo with no carpet. But we just hung out a lot in the kitchen and family room which were the only two rooms without carpet. I also laid down waterproof mattress covers on the couch when I let her watch tv- never needed them but it gave me peace of mind.

Ok thanks everyone...I guess we will just lock him in the playroom with the potty and at least contain any pee on the carpet to one room. It’s also encouraging to hear it may not be as messy as I’m expecting

We kept a portable potty in whatever room we happened to be in for the first couple of days and whenever we noticed he started peeing we’d grab him and stick him on the potty. He peed on the carpet a couple of times but I had carpet cleaner and some rags nearby to clean it up quickly. It only happened a couple of times, it wasn’t like a pee fest all over my house.

We did Oh Crap and my son didn't have like one accident on the floor. it was unbelievable. He did in his undies a few times. (He "tinkles" like every single day now when he's playing but overall it was a success lol)

You could put a blanket or even beach towels on the floor to help give you precious seconds. We put a chux pad under the portable potty when we hung out in the carpeted playroom during oh crap.

We aren't doing the oh crap method, mainly because my kid hates going without pants. But we are in the midst of potty training and I just watch him like a hawk. The moment he grabs himself we go over to the potty. It usually takes a few tries for him to go, but we haven't had too many accidents. If you have a certain area that you play in you could also just throw a few big beach towels down. We have mostly hardwood but I did that on our living room rug.

We did OCPT training in a house with carpet for DS2, and it really wasn't that bad. I mean, there were a few accidents on the carpet, so I'd definitely get some carpet cleaner, but a tenant of OCPT is watching the kid like a hawk so I usually got him to the little potty with just a little amount of pee actually hitting the floor. We did a lot of activities in the kitchen too, just so it'd be easier to clean if there was an accident. Oh, and also, if you live somewhere with moderate weather, we tried to be outside on the deck/backyard a lot too. Good luck!

I ordered the Oh Crap Potty Training book and we are planning on training this weekend...but our house is mostly carpet except for the kitchen and bathrooms...do I just have to expect there to be pee on the carpet the first few days? :bummed:
