@Lozza: it did the opposite with me!

I used to be very blunt and just answer people with uncensored honesty, but now, I don't even bother! I figure, any answer you give can and will be held against you. You can't win for losing!

If it helps, pregnancy totally helped (normally very non-confrontational) me to get really comfortable telling people to eff off. :)

Holy moly I thought planning a wedding earned me a lot of unsolicited opinions but that doesn't even come close to being pregnant with our first child. I made the mistake of telling a coworker that we planned on taking a birth and breast feeding class and I was met with argumentative insistence that that isn't what I should be doing. Birth is no big deal and I will be fine and once the baby is here instinct will take over and I will just magically know what to do and how to breastfeed. I also made the mistake of mentioning that we planned on using the hospital photographer for our baby's first portraits because we have been really happy with the work she did for friends. This friend insisted we would be more happy taking the baby to an outside photographer a few weeks later. At this point another coworker piped up and told me newborn babies are ugly and we would be a lot happier if we waited until the baby was older. I mean really?!? I wish I could say that this was the only instance with people giving their unsolicited opinions but its not. Even my poor husband who works with all men has had coworkers bugging him about everything from childcare to breast feeding. One coworker even began a day long opinionated assault about why we are wrong to not be cloth diapering. Sheesh! I don't get it. People get so worked up about seemingly mundane decisions we are making and it is driving me crazy! At this point I am just avoiding all baby related questions because I am so sick of defending dumb things like what stroller I bought. Ok rant over....I feel better now :)
