Gah, that's awful...... mice are the worst. We get them in our garage in the fall. We live pretty close to some farmland and they come in for the warmth. DH is the mousetrap man around here.

@NaturallyCathy: Yep, we just doused everything in bleach, opened the windows (in the freezing cold) and hoped for the best - ha!

@mrs. bird: Thank you for that. I needed the laugh :)

@meredithNYC: Yeah, this one was decomposing too but luckily the trap contained it. Needless to say I threw it outside as far as it would go and sanitized everything as much as possible - then called my husband!

Oh, man, I have had too many run ins with mice, having lived in terrible NYC housing. One of the worst times was when a friend invited me over to her apartment after we had gone to the gym. As soon as we walked in we were like, what's that awful smell?!

We looked everywhere and then peeked behind the TV, where we saw a dead, decomposing (!) mouse stuck in a trap. I was a brave soul and picked up the trap to throw it away, but the mouse was stuck to the floor (!!!!!!!!). So, so gross, but I guess it happened while it was um, decomposing. I ended up having to kind of scrape its body off their floors. Never again.

@Bao: you should grab a few of the enclosed traps, so you never have to see it and you throw the whole thing away.

@NaturallyCathy: That is sosososooooooo awful! I'm so sorry! I am terrified of mice, I don't even say the word! We have a cat, so I think they don't come around much, but we've had one a couple times & the cat KISSED it! Didn't hurt it, just licked it & followed it around! Stupid cat. One day I came home after drinks with a friend and thought there was a dead mouse under the dining room chair, I freaked and and left until DH came home. Then I got made at him for not finding the mouse... Apparently it was just a cat toy & those drinks were stronger than I thought :D

Acckkk!! I would be freaking out too! I hope if there's ever a mouse in the house that it's DH who finds it!!

That being said this will probably be a funny story a few years down the road....my mom killed a drugged-up rat with a broom stick when I was a baby and it's a story we love to hear over and over :)

And not just any mouse - a DEAD mouse. And guess who found it? DS!!!!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

The mouse was very much dead, had been dead for a few days in a trap we had put down months and months ago when we saw the mouse the first time. We hadn't seen him, the trap was still back there and we forgot about. Then about a week ago, we saw the sneaky little devil again and haven't seen him since.

Apparently between then and a few days ago, the **** thing had been a while. Of course, I freak out! DS can't figure out why I took this trap away from him and I'm busy trying to fling it out the door and get him changed and washed and everything and I'm -still- not sure he's clean enough. All I can think of is ew ew ew EW EWWWWW MY BABY TOUCHED A DEAD MOUSE!

And I, of course, feel no cleaner despite scrubbing.

Rant over, just had to share my turmoil.
