@NovBaby1112: I actually tried that right away! But I have a Freestyle and that area is reallllly short so it couldn't really suck in the nipple much and I only got a little dribble in 6 minutes, when normally I'd already have a couple oz at that point. So I gave up, hand expressed for foreeeever and got 2 oz. =( my boobs are killing me, esp my left one.

are your flanges separate from the base holder thingy where you attach the tubing and flanges to them (I'm not sure of the technical name...) I forgot my flanges at home once and just put my nipples in the part where you connect the flanges to and milk did come out (but it hurt like a B!) I got about 1/2 of what I normally get...but it was better than nothing I suppose

@Anagram: Yeah, I kept meaning to just leave a clean set at work but then it seemed like such a waste. But I've now forgotten my parts at least 4 times. Luckily there were a couple times when DH happened to be sick and/or working from home so he brought them to me. It's works much better for me to leave the dirty set at work.

But if can hand express for as long as you (my hand gets tired after a while) then you can probably get a pretty good amount when you can pump.

@ShootingStar: yeah, I keep meaning to do that. Or bring my manual pump even (I have one I never use anymore), but I just never did. I'm totally kicking myself now. My boobies hate me right now. =(

I had to hand express once when I forgot parts, it is a PITA and takes so long. There are videos on youtube that you can watch to help you figure it out. Once I could relax a litle and got a good rhythm going, I actually got quite a bit of milk. Good luck making it throught the day :(

I've done this a couple times. Once I went out and bought new ones during lunch, and once I hand expressed and then pumped later when I could. To avoid doing it any more, I now leave a set at work. So each day I bring in a clean set and use it for 2 pumps I do at work, then I leave it in the fridge and I bring home the set that was there waiting for me. That way the worse that happens is I have to wash pump parts and I don't panic at not having them.

Yikes! I'm so sorry!!

I have no advice on hand expressing - I'm terrible at it! If it were me, I'd just go home, but I know that's not always an option. HUGS! <3

I am in trouble. I just had my pumping break and found that I somehow left my flanges at home. This is a big problem because I had to use most of my frozen stash recently because I accidentally ate milk (LO is MSPI), so I gave her frozen for 3-4 days which burned through almost all of my stash.

And since I got sick, I barely make enough to feed LO. She won't take Neocate (we've been trying). And now I can't pump at work.

=( I don't know if I should leave work (which looks SO bad because I've already been missing a lot of work for LOs sicknesses) and take half personal day, wait it out (i'll be going from 6 am-4 pm with no pumps--oh god) or...?

There are no stores close enough to me to buy new flanges, plus I work in a school and can't just leave. I tried to hand express but I've never really done it before, so it took me 20 minutes to get 1.5 oz and I normally pump 5-6 oz.

F me.....

What is the trick to hand expressing? I'm totally guessing here.
