I have two annoying things, both family related. One is that my sister-in-law gave birth to her baby only 4 months ago, and my mother-in-law can't seem to get away from the idea that my birth will be exactly like hers, and my baby as well. She's convinced that my baby will be bald like hers was, and also that she will have trouble engaging for labour and delivery as it happened for my sister-in-law. I wish she would just realize that every birth and baby is different! I don't like her saying things so assuredly about my birth experience before it has even happened.

The other thing is the baby name. My best advice is NOT to tell anyone the name in your family before they are born! When we decided the name, my sister-in-law begged me to tell her and said she would keep it a secret. When I shyly confessed the name (which is popular in Canada but not in our circles), I said that we were nervous to choose it since it is popular, but that we don't know anyone with the name and we both love it so much. She didn't say anything about the name, and so didn't seem to like it. Then she said, "well it's probably mostly popular with HER generation." Thanks a lot! Way to make us feel good about our choice! I really regretted telling her before the baby was born and now I know she doesn't like the name. If you planned like I did to keep it a secret from family before the birth, stick to your guns!

A woman at work asked me if I would get an epidural. When I said I was going to try and go with out it, she said "oh, that means you will. My sister wanted to go without it and then she had to have one".
I just smiled and walked away thoroughly confused by her reasoning.

When we hit viability, I told my mom it was a nice relief. She said (In that mom voice) "well, we want a lot more than 24 weeks...." I told her duh, I wasn't going to drive to the hospital for a c section right then.

When I hit 30 weeks and said I was done being pregnant, she said it was to early to say that since it was too early to have the baby. I was like yeah, I'm not going to have an induction. Also, she was born at 30 weeks!

When I told her I was sewing baby clothes, she got all quiet and goes "oh. I assume you are up to do date on all the safety regulations?" Yes! I'm not gonna kill my baby with an outfit I sewed!!! When I told my husband that story, he said "oh that's a really good point, I haven't thought about that." Grrrr.

Oh I just remembered two more...a friend of mine who had her 2nd corrected me when I said full term was at 37 weeks with a Snarky "no its 36 weeks, its ok your new to this"

Met another pregnant gal at a party thing this last weekend who is pregnant with her second. I was pretty much the only one there who DIDNT have a child yet (Im 32 weeks pg right now). She talked about how she had a hard time getting prego the 2nd time around. I asked how far along she was, she said just 22 weeks. I said 'Yay well you are almost there, 2 more weeks and you hit Viability" She looked at me weird and asked me "what" in which I responded "Viability". She snarked back "Ummm NO, my doctor told me she would be fine if she was born now"
In which I kid you not a few others were like "well why is it so importnant we go to 40 weeks. Did I mention these women already had or RECENTLY had babies....woah I need to watch what kind of parties I got to. Who are these people...really? LOL
Really, what doctor would tell ANY women their baby would be OK at 22 weeks???

A women I work with who has three grown kids tried to tell me about how she saw this girl on tv who was 40 weeks pregnant and felt so bad for her. I asked why. She said "Because she is sooooo over due". I told her 40 weeks is normal, 40 weeks is when your "due date" is and what they want you to go to. She laughed and then told me "No, do the math, 9 months is 36 weeks". I didnt bother to explain. Walked away. Haha

What are some of the stupidest things people have told you?

I've had people tell me to buy seasonally appropriate clothing for my LO (uh, duh... I'm not going to buy him snowsuits for May!)

I had a girl tell me that breastfeeding was bad for the mom, that my nipples and boobs would never recover.

There was another gem about circumcision...

Oh the joys of unwanted advice!
