I thought I read somewhere that babies under 1 weren't supposed to have too much citrus?

@scg00387: Or, just assemble fruit into bags, freeze, and then dump into your smoothie in the morning with yogurt or whatever. Effortless!

I think that every toddler needs yogurt popsicles in their life. They have great protein, great fruits, they're great in the heat, and it's a freaking popsicle - they think they're getting a treat. Win win win.

@sarac: yes i need to try our popsicle molds!!

@hilsy85: I think I'm going to do the same thing. I need to figure out some new breakfast options now - or get my act together enough in the morning to make smoothies that early :)

I juiced oranges yesterday for LO and still watered it down for her and she's 14.5 months! I plan to use it as a smoothie base and add ice/water.

I usually make our smoothies with yogurt, fruit, and spinach. I agree that orange juice might have tooo much sugar. I usually offer that in place of doing yogurt so he doesn't have too much dairy!

If you need more liquid, I would try water. I think fruit juice has too much sugar (without the benefits of the whole fruit) for a LO that age.

My daughter (now 22 months) has always been permitted as much fruit in whole or smoothie form as she can eat. I'm of the opinion that when a child is eating plenty of good protein and fat that there is no such thing as too much sugar if it comes from WHOLE FRUIT.

I might skip the orange juice base and use whole oranges, or any other whole fruit and veggies. I mix whatever fruit I have around with whole unsweetened yogurt and almond butter and freeze it into popsicles, and my toddler is nuts for them. On hot days she'll have several. It's a great way to introduce new fruit tastes, too, all hidden with familiar ones.

The blog post reminded me to offer LO a smoothie soon! I usually make them after he's in bed but I need to start during the day. I normally make ours with orange juice, spinach, and frozen fruit - but even if it doesn't have added sugar... is that too sugary for a tot?? (He is almost 8 months)

Other thoughts would be unsweetened almond milk, water, or yogurt. He already eats a decent amount of yogurt...

Thoughts? What do others do??
