Hmm, maybe I should swap our BM in our other freezer. This one gets opened often.

Like Mrs. Bee says, depending on the temperature of your freezer and how often you open it, milk can be good up to 6 months. I would definitely go frozen milk before formula!!

i've used milk up to 4 months old as well before. if you have it, then yes it is better than formula. i have a small freezer that i use for breastmilk so it's only opened twice a week, so it can go longer than 3 months.

but now that i'm giving charlie breastmilk, i give him the older milk and olive the newer milk.

I don't have anything to add, but I just wanted to say that I'm so glad you posted this! I have wondered the same thing. It's good to know frozen milk is still good. My LO gets 3 bottles a day in daycare, which is around half her daily feedings, and I was curious if I should just switch to formula instead of frozen breast milk.

I use the 3 month rule, too. I've read that even though frozen loses some of its nutrients that it's still more nutritious than formula, so you should use it all up.

I'm just wondering about my freezer stash, and the fact that most moms cycle through their stash so the milk in the freezer never gets too old. Most of the milk in my freezer is from last month and this month. Since the milk loses nutrient value the older it gets, is it worth freezing it in the first place? Is defrosted breastmilk still more nutritious for baby than formula?
