@owlmom: yeah, that is what I'm thinking... 3-ring binders so I can move stuff around/add stuff when I have more time.

@sarah.clarisse: thank you. I think I will stop there tonight and try to grab a few things. I'm also going to order some stuff via Amazon Prime... It looks like for basic photo sleeves, other companies like We R Memory Keeps and American Crafters have less expensive options.

Thanks everyone! I think I am going to go ahead and get photos printed tomorrow and then madly try to put them into 12x12 sleeves before DH's birthday, with a few Project Life pages thrown in. Later, I may go back and try to journal more or do a little bit more of the Project Life type stuff. I like that approach because it does not seem as "final" as a photobook, where once it's printed, I can't change it.

@Mrs. Bee: The space thing is definitely the biggest draw back to old school albums! Fortunately we have a lot of storage space, but that part does kind of bother me... but I guess I can always make photobooks down the road. Thanks.

@78h2o: they have binders, the basic pages and a few variety packs. They also have the kits with the papers for the inserts... But they don't stock everything. Other companies also make supplies and you can find them at michaels as well. It's easy to get overwhelmed with too many options so I keep things pretty simple with just the goal of getting a few pages done each month.
If you search project life on Pinterest or Google you'll find a lot of scrapbook bloggers who do amazing stuff with it.

For printed photos, I use 12x12 scrapbooks, but fill them mostly with pages that hold 4x6 photos (like these http://www.joann.com/american-crafts-12inx12in-photo-protector-pockets-10pk/2045300.html#q=Scrapbook+photo+page&start=33). That way I can control the number of pages, easily rearrange them, etc, and add in a fancy scrapbook page or two if I have time.

@sarah.clarisse: What products from that line are stocked at Michaels? Do they have pages, cards, binders, etc.? Looks fun!

@jetsa: yes! those are the same albums that I used for our wedding/honeymoon photos! I had so many pics I think I used 3 of them! I love that it has spots for photos in different orientations and a place for comments... I'm scared to use them though for the mess of photos I've accumulated though because I think it's going to be tricky to get them into chronological order. But it would be nice to have all the albums the same.

@sarah.clarisse: oooh, I like that idea, thanks! I'm thinking the 12 x 12 is the way to go because it will give me the option to mix in those journal-type pages.

I  old school photo albums. I made one for our wedding and I'm in the process of making one (or two) for DS's first year. I like this one: http://amzn.com/B002FXJ5T2

I love having photobooks!

@Mrs. Bee: if you don't mind letting someone else do the layouts for you, MyPublisher will "create" a photobook for you in chronological order in which your pictures were taken. You just select the pictures you want to include. Once the book is created, you can hit purchase if you like the layout or rearrange the layout to your liking.

I do a yearly album with old school print outs and a space next to each photo to hand write a note. I get my albums from here:

I use a combo of both. I use "project life" scrapbook binders for day to day memory keeping during the year. Printing photos monthly and sliding them into the pockets with minimal journaling. I make photobooks for major trips or events. But I'm way more behind on the photobooks because I am too indecisive when doing them.

You can read about project life here: https://beckyhiggins.com/about-project-life/
I buy the supplies on amazon and at michaels with coupons!
It might be a quick and easy way to put something together in a week!

photo albums take up so much more space. but you're right... i have thousands of photos because i never get around to making the photobooks!

make the album now with the hope of making the photobook later. i swear there should be a service for this where you just send the pics and they arrange them!

LO is 1.5 and I have yet to put together any photo albums (besides newborn pics)... and I take A LOT of pics.

I've been intending to make photobooks/albums via MPix or Adorama, but I can't seem to find the time. I feel like it would take me FOREVER to get it how I want it, so it's super overwhelming. I still haven't make a wedding album yet for this reason, though I did print wedding photos at Costco and put them in old school albums for the time being.

DHs birthday is Friday and I was thinking I might do the same thing and quickly print photos and put them in albums. The wedding photos are in bound albums with fillable slots... for these family pics, I was thinking about getting 3-ring albums with fillable slots in different orientations/configurations. I was thinking of using the 3 rings because they would be easier to rearrange/put in chronological order, though otherwise I think I like the bound version better.

Anyone have thoughts on which is better? What type of albums/photobooks do you have and are you happy with your decision? Should I hold off with the albums in hopes of putting together photobooks.... or go ahead with the fillable albums to at least have something?

DH has trouble with his memory (due to some health issues/medical treatments/medications) and I think this is partly why it bothers him that he can't readily access the pics (they are all on my data sticks and my secondary drive). He doesn't remember DDs babyhood very well. So I do want to get something for him ASAP, but I don't want to waste time/money on the old school albums if the photobooks would be better.

Sigh... so indecisive today!
