Yeah, it's somewhere between 1000-1600 where I am. Does anyone have experience with nanny sharing? How much does it typically run? I've heard nanny sharing is potentially less expensive than daycare?

Yeah it's crazy expensive! It's like $1500-$2300 where I am. That's way to much for us to work with. My mom offered to quit her job to watch the baby when we eventually have one. We'd pay her significantly less and have the peace of mind of knowing the baby is well cared for. We also wouldn't have to stress about strict pickup times.
Hopefully her offer will still stand when the time comes.

We are in the same boat - freak out boat. We are going to see if my company will let me cut my work week down to 32 hours and do 16 hours of working from home. I'll work from home under the impression that we'll have our LO in daycare or have a nanny there. It probably won't happen, though. We're hoping to only pay for 2 days of daycare per week.

@mrsjazz: This is one of the main reasons we will only have one, as well. :(

We had to severely deplete our savings but we refinanced the house and cut back on A LOT of stuff.

We are freaking out, too. So far we've seen between $1500-2,300 for costs. We are going to be cutting back on everything, phone, cable, restaurants, etc. We're even trying to move to a cheaper apartment.

We want two children, but honestly, we don't know how we can afford two with the cost of daycare. It's scary :(

Yes, daycare costs seriously suck!! Although, its super important so I understand the high cost (grumble, grumble).

We struggle with thinking about it, and to be honest it kind of makes me mad because I feel sort of “damned if you do, damned if you don’t”. If I didn’t make much money, it would be easier to justify staying home due to the cost of daycare. Since I make a decent salary, I really can’t justify giving that up, so instead just have to shell out a grand a month for daycare.

Another option is to go in on a nanny-share with another couple (or two) – that could be cheaper than traditional daycare, or at least the baby:caregiver ratio would be lower.

Yeah, super pricey where I live ($2,000 a month!!) Luckily, my mom has agreed to watch the baby at least 1 day a week = monthly savings of $400. I can't stay home b/c I am currently the breadwinner and my husband can't stay home b/c he is in his surgery residency. We are going to have to cut back in other areas big time.

It sucks, a lot. When I go back to work, after day care and commute costs, the first 3 hours of every work day will be gone. But for me, I'd rather have a baby and struggle a little with daycare costs.

The only way we've been able to make it work is to eliminate or cut back every other cost besides childcare and housing!

So the husband and I are pre-TTC. I've got an OB/GYN appointment at the end of this month, and I've got a few health-related questions for the doc, but as long as I get the-all clear, we'll be TTC by February 1st.

In my excitement, I started researching childcare costs and OH MY GOD IT IS SO EXPENSIVE. Like, significantly more than our mortgage.

We're kind of freaking out now. We knew it would be very pricey but it's even more than we'd anticipated. My husband and I both make decent salaries, but we can't afford for one of us to quit our jobs and stay home with a baby. We don't have any family nearby who are willing or able to provide free or cheap child care.

Did anyone struggle with childcare costs? How did you make it work?
