We are on the fence about a 3rd also. I have a 4 year old DS1 and 1 year old DS2. We always wanted a 3rd but things happened in DS2’s birth that we were advised to wait at least 3 years and maybe even consider not having more kids. We kind of wanted the third to be either close in age or far in age with the rest but now the only choice is far in age but I’m not getting any younger and pregnancy and births seem to take a lot out of me.

Also for us we live in a smallish place and thought we would have moved in our forever home by now or at least knew it was a possible to move but as the housing market is right now it would be almost impossible for us to move and not worry / stress out / freak out all the time about making mortgage payments. We can somewhat live comfortable in our place as a family of 4.

I would say we are still open for a third for another 2-5 years … But I’m totally flip flopping on it every few months. One day I’m like you know I only have to suffer through pregnancy for a 40 weeks and giving birth is only one day of my life I can get through it, totally worth it for a cute little person. Or we can afford slight larger house we just have to tighten our belts. Then some days I’m like I’m not sure if I want to go through it all again. Or our family seems good at two kids.

So you are not alone. I also feel whatever choice we make will probably be what’s best for our family. I think whatever choose will be right for you! Good luck!

We were on the fence about #3 as well. DH is a doctor and works crazy hours and I work part time, so life is pretty crazy as is! Then, we accidentally got pregnant for #3 when DS2 was 9m old, when we were trying to avoid getting pregnant. We lost the pregnancy, but it made us realize we do want a third. Basically, I didn't want to be pregnant again and the first year is just crazy. But, we always pictured having 3 kids and we know that after the initial craziness is over, we will be happy we have 3. I'm now 7 weeks pregnant with #3 - DS1 will be 4.5 when #3 arrives and DS2 will be 22 months. We do have a part time nanny for when I work and both boys will be in school (DS1 will be in pre-K 5 days a week and DS2 will be in a toddler program 3 days). Basically, the nanny plus school will negate my salary, but having her will really help with the transition into 3 and eventually we won't need her as much.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do!!

Hi, I'm new here and a mama to two children, ages 5 & 2. My husband and I are on the fence about a third. We've been discussing for well over a year whether we should try again or be done. He works a lot, and I stay home, so I know life will become even more hectic if we add another. Is anyone else on the fence about having a third? I wouldn't mind hearing from people who decided to go for 3 too. Share your experiences if you don't mind. Thanks so much!
