They keys are metal and there is a plastic section with 3 different buttons that do car sounds. We loved a peanut butter (empty and clean obviously) filled with little plastic animals or links, a finger puppets, matchbox cars, ribbons/pieces of cloth, basically anything disposable/replaceable so it's not a big deal if you lose a few bits now and then. We have a fabric doll she loves, but we've got to expand our collection.
