@juli7: Ooo my girls love Dora! I'm gonna see if it'll be there through May! And cheap parking is great!

My top recommendation if it's a nice day is to go to the Public Garden and play on the Make Way for Ducklings statues, then go over to the playground on the Common. We often get pastries and coffee beforehand at Tatte bakery on Charles St. It's one of my favorite outings with the kids!

You can go wrong with the Aquarium, Museum of Science, or the Children's Museum. We go to the Museum of Science most often because parking is the least expensive. They have a new Dora the Explorer visit that my 3.5 and 1.5 year olds loved last time we went. There is a playground nearby that is fun too.

@nutmeg36: I think spring vacation week is next week, but that's totally good advice because I'm sure it's craziness itself that entire week!

@snowjewelz: I bet a duck boat tour would be so much fun with your girls at that age!

What about the duckboat tour, my son loved it and was just so shocked about a boat driving on land, going in water, etc.

@snowjewelz: which one of the schools did you go to? My husband went to BC and we went back for just a day...we made a fun lil picnic of his fave quick service foods and just wandered around Campus...could be fun to integrate too...

@Mrs D: Me too, and it's super special that I get to bring DH and the kids there, to show them my school and old stomping grounds!
Oo yes, duck tours!! How can I forget! I think if the weather is nice I'd def rather go for duck tour/public gardens/swan boats and then the other suggestions can be for bad weather.

@snowjewelz: How about a Duck Tour? Would your kiddos do well on one of those?

Otherwise I recommend the Science Museum, Aquarium or Public Gardens/Swan Boats...depending on weather!

Have fun...I miss Boston SO much!

@raspberries: Oh I am sure! It would be for Friday 5/25, so it would be Memorial Day Weekend...

@oldschooolmama: Ohh good one! Totally forgot about Science Museum!

@Foodnerd81: Yeah I put the zoo on the list in case we didn't feel like driving into the city and parking, etc. We are not staying in the city so it's no problem.

@skipra: Haha yeah I am completely oblivious to all things kids/family friendly in Boston. I only know shopping, eating and going out in Boston :silly: This is for Fri 5/25. We're going up for a graduation

When are you going? Parking might be easier and cheaper by the children's museum. My kids are way more into that than the aquarium. The Seaport area is probably much different than you remember. It might be nice to walk along the water if it's nice and you could even cross over the bridge to explore the greenway. There is a carousel and it's really not that far to the fanueil hall area.

Oh and the zoo- franklin park zoo? It’s actually kind of far from downtown and it’s fine but not like, some amazing zoo. So I wouldn’t do that if you only are in Boston for a day.

Depends when you are going. I loved the children’s museum when we lived close to it and I think it would be really good for your kids ages. But it can get crowded on weekends and school breaks, and it’s all inside, so if it is a gorgeous day you might not want inside. But you could easily eat lunch outside before and there are tables right there or a big grassy area.

I also liked the aquarium a lot but it was really expensive and I felt like there was just a lot of things I had to tell my kids not to do (like, don’t climb the display...). And my daughter liked it enough but I feel like the children’s museum was just more fun for little kids.

I never went to the science museum so can’t speak to that.

I liked Faneuil Hall - it's a big marketplace, and there's a lot to stare at  I think there were a candy shop and a bakery, but I was there years ago and without kids, so I don't quite remember.

I think the science museum is amazing and great for kids and adults. They have a great space just for little ones that is a huge hit. The children's museum is good too but I love the science museum more.

@raspberries: Was it during Spring Break? If so, that's potentially why it was crazy. I made the mistake of taking the little boy I nannied there and it was NUTSO. Like, took 1 hour plus just to GET IN THE BUILDING. He had a good time, but I was an anxious mess the ENTIRE day. This was over 5 years ago, so maybe it's better now, but I doubt it.

@snowjewelz: See above paragraph; I HIGHLY suggest you avoid the Aquarium if it's during spring break.

@snowjewelz: Will it be a weekend? If so, I might avoid the Aquarium - we just went on Saturday and it was absolute insanity. Just way too many people to be very enjoyable to anyone.

@bhbee: That sounds great; Boston is so beautiful when the weather is nice! If I choose Aquarium it would be b/c then we can just hang out at Quincy Market for a little bit too.

We used to love the aquarium! (Lo was only 2.5 when we moved away). Of those it’s definitely the most central, if that is a concern.

Also if you’re going in good weather the public garden can be fun just to run around, or do swan boats, etc then walk to get a treat somewhere (Charles st or back bay).

I miss it, my kids haven’t been back since we moved!

What should we do? I lived in Boston for school for 4 years but know nothing about kids stuff! And we only have 1 free afternoon so just a few hours. What should we do?

Aquarium
Zoo
Children Musuem

Or another suggestion? My girls will be almost 3.5 and 17 months.
