@Mrs. Jump Rope: I hate full panel with a vengeance. They feel so constricting in the third tri. I feel like I can't breathe! And I can only imagine the extra layer will make my stomach sweat this summer. Yuck.

@locavore_mama: I actually prefer the full panel! It doesn't bother me. Lower labels dig into my belly and feel uncomfortable.

Id like to know why all the tops I'm seeing are striped. I'm already a cow, let's throw on some stripes so I look even wider!!

@Mrs. Jump Rope: @LuLu Mom: and what is up with maternity shorts being full panel?! Do I really want that extra layer?!

I have been looking around for a good pair of maternity chino/khaki shorts. I love shorts in the summer. A good pair can be dressed down with a t-shirt or tank top flip flops or dressed up with a fancier top and the right shoes.

I got a long empire waist maxi dress from target that is also a nursing dress. I wore it all summer even after lo was born and will probably wear it as a nursing mom this summer! It was from target!

Mine were REALLY nice capri leggings (grey and black) from Pea in a Pod. They were really good quality and I could wear them with a variety of things. No thigh rubbing (an issue with dresses here in HOT FL) but light enough that I wasn't dying of sweat- and the good quality meant no see through. Because yes... sometimes they ended up being more "pants" than leggings (but mostly because shirts got shorter and shorter...

Because it's so hot and sweaty where I live during the summer, I would rather buy a few dresses from Gap and Old Navy than splurge on one item... I'd rather put that money towards a massage.

I had a maxi skirt from Gap that I LOVED. It was the most comfortable thing ever, and still looked really cute with a fitted tank top (maxi dresses tended to just make me look huge, so I preferred the maxi skirt and tank). And, lucky for you, Gap still sells it AND it's half off right now. Buy it now.
http://www.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=1008566&vid=1&pid=941187002

I tried to wear it post partum but I had sized up a little when I bought it so it was just way too big. I really want it in non maternity. I really love it. Can you tell?

@Ms.Pumpkin: One thing to remember with maxi dresses, if you are planning to breastfeed, you need to be able to pull the neck down or over, or you'd have to pull the whole dress over your head to nurse. Another reason I preferred the maxi skirt and tank combo, it was easier to swap in a nursing tank immediately post partum. (As if I wasn't just in loose yoga pants and a stretched out nursing tank 95% of the first few weeks...)

A good quality dress. Towards the end I basically lived in my maternity dresses because even my maternity jeans were getting snug.

ETA: It would be from Pea in the Pod. Their stuff is expensive but it's great quality.

My very favorite summer item to wear while hugely pregnant (July baby) was a knee length, short sleeved navy pea in the pod dress with gray stripes. It was stretch cotton and fitted, ruched in the belly, and it was not only comfy but really flattering and SUPER nice quality. I wore it several times a week (with a short sleeved sweater, with an open button-down, or alone) and washed it a ton and it still looked brand new. I couldn't stand waistlines of any kind while pregnant so a really great everyday dress that I could also dress up was important to me. I loved it so much I wanted to keep wearing it after I had the baby... but it made me look still pregnant :(

Best part: I got it at Destination Maternity (combines Motherhood with Pea in the Pod) for $30!! Sometimes Pea in the Pod has really huge clearance sales.

@T.H.O.U.: I am dying for a new pair of shoes but my feet get larger during pregnancy! Boo.

I think i would splurge on a good pair of shorts. Everything I see is super short (5") or Bermuda, and I'm only 5' tall so Bermuda shorts make me look shorter and stumpy.

I haven't come across a pair of 7" shorts yet so I mostly wear capris in the summer.

hmm..judging from me last summer when I was hugely pregnant...pregnancy bike shorts to wear under skirts and dresses to prevent chub rub between the thighs.

Not sure I would call that a splurge though--it was an essential for me! ;-) Shoes and sandals a size up, too...for feet swelling.

Ooh, I' replying in order to bump and follow!

I'm going to be hitting my 3rd trimester in August (in the mid-Atlantic... holy humidity, Batman!), and I'm trying to find ways of surviving.

Lots of women seem to invest in a good pair of maternity jeans as their splurge, but honestly, I hate wearing jeans in the summer, even when not pregnant. I can't imagine wearing jeans in August while being massively pregnant.

I think I'm going to splurge on a couple of nice maxi-dresses, and I'm hoping that if the weather holds out through the Fall, I can wear them through my Oct due date and postpartum, by adding some cardigans and leggings when it gets chillier.

Not just warmer weather, but my maternity splurge for any season would be a good stretchy wrap dress. I wore mine SO often, all through my pregnancy, for every formal and semi-formal event we had from weddings to dinners with grandparents to Christmas Eve service. It loved that it looked good when I was barely showing AND when I had a huge bump! Destination Maternity has some really cute wrap dresses right now, but you can sometimes find nice cheaper ones at Target (though I find their Maternity selection hit-and-miss).
