@chopsuey119: I hold onto the railing about 90% of the time, and I actually was holding onto it yesterday! Doesn't necessarily stop you from falling though lol

@Coco Bee: not sure - I haven't actually read it, it was just on a list given to me. I think because some people let the fear/anxiety take over to a point where it causes serious anxiety? For instance if someone can only think about dropping the baby, if it keeps them up at night worrying, interferes with daily functioning, that type of thing. Not saying you have that anxiety - but not sure if anyone else on the boards does (I totally have a history of anxiety disorder)

I've slipped going down the stairs a couple of times, so DH makes me hold onto the railing when I walk down with LO. :P I don't always do it though..

Ahhh what a nightmare! Glad the two of you are okay!!

@sorrycharlie: how does it help address these fears? They're obviously not irrational fears - I know that at only 5 mos old my son could be seriously injured from a fall on the stairs...

Glad you're both ok! My fears are also stairs & dropping her. There's actually a book for therapists to use with clients (new parents) that present with fears such as these! I read about it on a list I was given (as a therapist) but obviously anyone can read it.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/0415877008 if anyone is interested! It's called Dropping the Baby and Other Scary Thoughts.

Glad you're both OK! I tripped on our landing when LO was about 5 months old. I fell forward and pulled her into my chest and stuck my elbows out to land on them but as my hand moved up to pull her in my fingernail, which I keep pretty short, scratched her right under her eye. I felt terrible but the scratch healed and she wasn't hurt at all by the fall itself.

Oh no! We don't have stairs, we stayed in NY for a week and there were steep stairs everywhere, it was so scary! I made DH carry her up and down the stairs the whole time!

I have tons of fears like that. I'll drop her, we'll have a car accident, I'll turn my head for a few seconds when she's in the tub and she'll go under, etc. I'm a worry wart!

I watched my LO do a flip off the bed and land on her face. I was right there but not quick enough. No playing on the beds anymore. I have also watched her lean over and go head first into the bath tub. It was empty and again I was right there but I am so scared she will do it when the tub is full because now I have seen how easily she can get in.

Sounds so scary! Glad both you & LO are ok, @cocobee.

I've got a million and one fears... falling down the stairs is a big one. Another is LO somehow falling out of her wrap/carrier... I always get so nervous when I have to take her out.

@Coco Bee: man, this is gonna sound awful but that happened to LO as well! Sigh, he's had so many accidents in just a few years of his life! Our sitter was strolling him to the park and she rushed a little and must've hit an uneven part of the ground. The stroller flipped over and LO landed on his forehead. We actually took him to the ER but he turned out okay.

@BoogieBea: oh my gosh that is so incredibly awful.
One time, when I was little, like 8 or 9, I was pushing my little brother in the stroller and it got jagged on a rock and I tried to push it over, instead it pushed the strolled over and my brother hit his face in the gravel. I felt soooo awful. Thankfully he was fine.

@Mrs. Jacks: It is just the worse feeling, isn't it?!
@Mrs.M57: oh those kinds of stairs are so scary even without an LO in your arms!!
@TurtleDoves: aww I like that, hero mama lol

I have two fears. One is the stairs and the other is stepping on a LO. I did recently fall down half a flight of stairs with M. I protected her really well without holding on too tight or dropping her. She was fine and I was only a little mangled-- which oddly helped me get over my fear!

Glad you are ok. Sorry about the bruises!

I hope you're okay and good to hear that LO didn't get hurt. This happened to my husband on Halloween on someone's porch steps. His feet slipped under him and he landed on his behind while LO flew out of his arms and landed face down onto the pavement. Luckily LO only got a rather large scrape along one side of his face. It healed in a few days.

My biggest fear too! I worry that my instincts won't kick in and I won't shield her automatically. I think I would, but just imagining it is so scary. Glad to know she is okay. In general when I am trying to sleep I imagine all sorts if those similar type situations - DD falling and hitting her head in the ground somehow. Def my biggest fear.

I have always been so soo scared of going up/down the stairs with LO, scared I would fall down or trip while holding him. I'm a very careful stair-stepper now.

But tonight it happened! I tripped going up the stairs and I was holding DS! Oh my gosh I freaked, I was amazed though at how my internal reflex was to shield and protect DS, so I was the one who got hurt, not him. He didnt even cry! I am sooo thankful he is ok!!!

What is your worst parenting fear!?
