@Bao: She definitely knows! Xander does this too and he's not even 3 yet.

We do what @Mrs. Lion: suggested. The second person usually will apologize and point out that the first person said no and they have to stick with that.

Yeah, that happens sometimes. We both just say, sorry honey, daddy didn't know.

if one of us realizes this happens we go by the first answer. so if dh already said no but I say yes, I will stop when I realize it and say "oh, sorry LO. I didn't know daddy said no already."

We struggle with this too. Not so much that our LO shops for answers butI think she has a hard time knowing whose expectations she's expected to follow when we're all together. And we often contradict each other. I tell her to put on a jacket. She doesn't want to. DH says "well it's not that cold out..." Very frustrating.

We used to run into this allllllll the time. We finally had to start asking each other when it had to do with food. Or we ask LO "what did Mom/Dad say?".

If it's something that needs a rule, then the one that feels passionately has to enforce it and the other person has to stand behind it.

Ha, it's a blessing and a curse when kids get old enough to be sneaky! I'd take it from her and tell DH I had already said no. He'd immediately tell her that we're a team and there's no shopping for answers. It only took a couple of times and mine got the message.

@Looch: Ugh, mine does this too. And his snacks aren't very healthy - think college student. It doesn't bode well for when LO is able to process it and ask for snacks himself.

Have you told your husband no snacks before dinner? I know it sounds like a no brainer, but my husband will literally make himself a snack with dinner in 15 minutes, so he doesn't get that our son shouldn't be having a snack at that time either.

My little cousins tried this on me. These kids know exactly what they are doing. After my aunt, their grandma, told me the girls 2 and 3 had already been told no I answered each of their requests with a question. "What did so and so say?" The girls could have lied, but by naming specific people they knew I could easily double check.

Everytime daddy is home from a work trip, she tries this tick. We're rying to train ourselves to ask "what did mommy say" or "did you ask daddy already?"

They're at an age when they'll try anything to get their way, lol.

There has been a few times lately where I will tell my 3 year old she can or cannot have something, I'll go about whatever I was doing and then I find out DH said the opposite. It's not about one of us not respecting the other, we just didn't know what the other had said, or that LO even asked one of us already. I don't really blame LO yet because she just turned 3 so I don't think she really understands quite yet.

Here is an example" "Mommy can I have a snack?"
"After dinner you can, but not right now"

5 minutes later DH is getting her a snack out of the cabinet. So then once I notice I have to tell him what I already told her and then LO gets upset.

Does anyone deal with anything similar? Any advice on a way to better communicate things like this so we don't run into these issues?
