I started using Elementals and Freetimes as soon as his umbilical stump fell out--right about 2 weeks. I used disposables before that. I only had an out of the diaper up the back blowout one time, when he was 3 weeks old. But my LO was already 10 or so lbs at 2 weeks old.

RAR OS are the only OS I know that could fit from birth.

We used a combo of prefolds, pockets, & aio from birth until P was 10lb, over 3 months. It was a small stash that we washed daily & cost around 150 bucks (still less than 3 months of sposies).

@JoJoGirl: $10 per week. You put down a deposit and they deduct from your deposit $10 per week. They anticipate an 8 week rental and you send back everything at the end and can get a refund or store credit. http://www.diaperdaisy.com/Newborn-Diaper-Rental_p_212.html

Yeah it's all about the size of the baby. We started at about 2.5 months because that's when LO weighed about 10 lbs and they started fitting well. Before that we used newborn prefolds because it's such a short time I didn't want to spend too much on NB diapers. It was worth having a separate stash though because we still spent less than we would have on disposables in that time period.

DS didn't fit his one size cloth diapers until he was 12-14 lbs so around 8-10 weeks old. It all depends on the baby though. My son is long and lean and one size diapers just took awhile longer to fit well. We did a rental for 8 weeks for newborn sized cloth instead so we didn't invest a lot of money but could still use cloth from the beginning.

We used lil joeys until he was about a month when he outgrew their absorbency. Some of our OS aios still don't fit we'll at ten weeks and 14 lbs. we also had fitted and prefold and with covers but used them less . I'm going to list them on the classifieds soon (prefolds fitteds and covers) if you're interested :)

@JoJoGirl: Yes. My friend advised me to use disposable for a month because cloth would be too overwhelming with a newborn, so that was my plan. But once LO grew out of her newborn diapers at 2 weeks (she was a big girl) I felt ready to go to the cloth.

Greetings, I'm back from my PnP kick and have returned to cloth diapering questions.

We went to our CD workshop this weekend, yay! One girl broke down in hysterical tears during it... apparently they have coin-op laundry. It was a little overwhelming.

Anyway: the trainer said you can't use one-size CDs until the baby is 3 *months* old! What? Something about how newborns are constantly pulling their knees to their chest and diapers will gap at the bum. We are looking right now at doing Freetimes during the day and maybe fitteds + covers at night (double elastic for the win). Freetimes are one-size. This makes me worried that we won't be able to use our Freetimes FOREVER though! Anyone?

ETA: What did you use in the meantime?
