@2littlepumpkins: oh yeah the illness thing drives me bonkers too.
I have a friend who is just the sweetest woman ever. She's just so nice and positive and you'd be a monster to not like her. But...I saw her at the playground once with her son when I know the day before he was vomiting and had nonstop diarrhea. In my head I was like "noooooo! Why?????" It doesn't compute in my brain!

@Rocker2014: I never really thought about it either (aside from the just for kids type places).. thanks for the heads up and sorry you're dealing with that! Sounds scary.

@MrsRoo: I have a climber too. And she has been to the ER, where she let everyone know she doesn't listen when she's told to stop. Lol. Would NEVER let her get away with climbing on other peoples furniture though! Not cool!!

I guess if I had to pick one thing that irritates me (not counting the mommy wars, which I think most of us agree just suck) I would say parents of sick kids that let their kids go out and about too early. And especially to places other than child care where they don't really need to go. I find it infuriating! I know this is just a cold but one time I saw an older kid wiping his snot ALL OVER the play place at the mall (and I don't know if he should have even been in there) and his mom or whoever it was just sat there chatting with another woman with her and just did not care at all. Yuck!

@azjax: like letting your kid repeatedly kick the occupied seat in front of them at the movie theatre or on a plane. Or allowing your kids to run around and in between tables at a restaurant. Common!

I think my biggest annoyance is parents who let kids that are way too old and big use the mall playground. A 10 year old should not be running at full speed and jumping off of play structures in a place meant for the 4 and under crowd. It's posted the max height is 48 inches but so many parents disregard it.

@hellobeeboston: I will just say my firstborn had a piercing cry as an infant that broke the sound barrier - like when they handed him to me in the delivery room he blew out my ear and I couldn't hear well for a while. He gave me PTSD (colic and reflux) so whenever he would get upset in public DH and I would be like NOPE SHUT IT DOWN. I have handed a full Costco cart to an employee with profuse apologies with DS screaming before because his screaming is unholy. So if that mom had that kind of piercing scream, she should have left.

@Foodnerd81: See, that sorta just proves what I was saying... I very rarely am annoyed but other parents/parenting because you never know what is going on, mostly I just want to commiserate with them... I'm sure MOST of the time there is a valid excuse for whatever it is that others may 'disapprove of'.... and I'm saying "disapprove of" with big air-quotes.

That TJ's screaming was next-level though.... it was pretty epic.

Ugh I can't stand it when parents let their feral children terrorize others in public places like it is no big deal. Fine if you don't believe in discipline or whatever, but if you're going to break the social contracts of being considerate and using/treating public facilities (restaurant, park, store, wherever) respectfully then stay home! I'M not talking about the odd meltdown or age-appropriate testing of boundaries, but kids that are systematically rude and disrespectful as a modus operandi.

@hellobeeboston: I have to say, with the screaming in a store... I mean I would have tried to stop the crying but seriously, sometimes you just need the groceries. Like we are out of milk and bread and we drove ten minutes to the store... I'm going to get the damn groceries even if you have a tantrum. I was that mom in target recently. Both my kids had a meltdown at the same time for about five minutes. But I had driven 20 minutes to get there and was so so so tired. I just needed the stuff so we could go home.

@mrsrain: Haha this was me in Target the other day, but my kid is only 8 weeks old and was crying in the stroller while I was trying to pick up diapers and other necessities. So I was basically just run-walking through the store crooning, "You're fine, you're okay." But I think it doesn't really count when you can't reason with them.

It has been spring break by us for the past two weeks and the first thing I thought of was bringing older kids/siblings into an area that is specifically for younger kids (like signs that say a certain age range and the kid is very clearly too old). We were at a McDonald's play place the other day and there was a 12-13 year old, heavier set kid HANGING from the outside of play structure. He continually jumped up and grabbed bars to hang from. It seemed so unsafe with little kids playing up in the structure and it was showing the younger kids some inappropriate behavior. He was there with younger siblings and grandparents and no one said anything. I actually heard the grandparents praise his pull-ups!

The snacks in non-food places bother me, too. It always causes a meltdown for my son.

I think my annoyance could be summed up as parents not following the rules. It sets such a bad example for all kids around and can be a huge safety issue.

@MrsRoo: ha, that's my 2nd kid. It's not because I think it's cute though, it's because she is just a climber and I can either make us both miserable by getting onto her all day long, or I can just let her climb. I've given up. She does fall 100x more than my first, cautious girl but I can't police her 24/7, so she climbs every precarious object in our house and now I basically just watch her. Unless it's even more dangerous than usual.

We have a family in our lives who let their kids climb on everything and think it's adorable. They also don't watch closely and I have had to rescue their child from swivel bar stools, standing on the tray of our IKEA high hair, etc. These kids are constantly standing on my coffee table, climbing up the arms of my nice sofa and the parents are over the moon that their little monkey is going to be a gymnast. Ummm, no- your little monkey is going to be in the ER because you can't be bothered to teach them not to climb on all the things! We just saw them so this is fresh, lol.

@daniellemybelle: haha....oh yeah. My kids refuse to sit in grocery carts, and I need to buy food and my husband works long hours. So I let them stand in the cart and hold on to the side, because it keeps them happy and not tantrumming. But people will CONSTANTLY comment. I'm like...do you want two screaming banshees while I buy some eggs and milk, or do you want two kids standing in the cart, because IT'S ONE OR THE OTHER. If one of them would sit in the cart happily I would be doing that, trust me.

Honestly, the only thing that really, truly bothers me is others interfering with my parenting or my child unnecessarily. I do believe it takes a village and there are moments when I am not paying attention and another parent can help out! But if I am standing RIGHT THERE and just choosing to handle a situation differently than you, please don't jump in.

An example would be my daughter is standing on a chair, I am next to her, watching her and talking to her, and you jump in frantically and say, "Oh, honey, watch out, that's dangerous!" I get that not everyone wants their kids to stand on chairs but she is not going to get hurt with me right there.

@gingerbebe: this for real!!! People look at me crazy when I tell them my child has only ever been out after dark twice since birth (he's 14.5months). My kid needs his sleep. My MIL is always "if you keep him up later he'll sleep later", yea...no not my child he gets up by 7 period. It doesn't matter what time we go to bed lol.

Anyways for clarification I have always worked in a retail or customer service situation. my number 1, is when people let the children destroy everything. Literally the majority of parents I have been around just let thier children have free reign of the store thier in. At one point I worked for a sports store where we carried workout weights, And we had a bench on display. Kids were constantly playing with the weights, and there was clearly signs posted everywhere about not touching the weights. One time was so bad I had told these 2, probably 4 and 6 year old to quit playing with the weights 3 times. It was as if they had never heard the word no before. The mother never said a thing, didn't even acknowledge that I had told her children not to do something. I finally lost it, walked up to her and told her if she couldn't control her satanic children that she needed to get the hell out of my store. I swear to god I was fully prepared to lose my job over that but I could take NO MORE that particular day. The sad part is more parents were like her than not. My child will always have to either hold my hand in a store or ride in the basket. i would forever feel horrible if somebody else ever has to clean up after my child.

Yelling (or worse) at children in public. You can generally tell who has simply hit the end of the rope as a parent and who yells in public at their children as a matter of course. If they treat their children like that in public, I assume private is much worse.

Also, parents that won’t discipline or set boundaries *at all*. There is a girl (maybe 6 or 7? Old enough to behave) who has a ballet class right after LO’s so every weekend we are stuck in the same hallway together. She is bouncing OFF THE WALLS, yelling, talking, bumping into little kids (including knocking some down), bumping into adults, tapping with tap shoes on (so, *loud* tapping/dancing), singing loudly and whether her mom or dad takes her – radio silence. She is so annoying and loud (and bumps into little kids and others) and they can’t be bothered to say one word to their princess, except to occasionally tell her how beautifully she is singing/dancing. If my kid was bouncing around wildly being obnoxious they would be getting the mom-death-glare and intervention.

@bubblegum: I just don't understand. Do you like sleeping in an airplane seat hunched over? Do you like trying to go to sleep in the middle of a Denny's at 3am? Then why would my kid want to sleep in a stroller or at your house during a dinner party at 8pm?

This is a great post if for no other reason it will make us nut-eaters mindful that snacks in public can be dangerous!

The only thing that annoys me so far are parents that seem to ignore and not interact with their kids. Basically they parent practically in silence. Who knows I may annoy parents by constantly talking to LO interrupting their train of thought.
