Personally, I wouldn't put TTC on hold because of that. I only got 6 weeks anyway because my company was too small to qualify for FMLA.

@MrsTiger: thank you for sharing! From my interview it seems like they are really nice and family oriented so if maybe I will have a similar experience as you if I get pregnant soon after starting.

@KelLeeLeee: I just experienced a similar situation - I took a new job knowing we were TTC, and ended up getting pregnant way faster than I thought I would, so I won't be eligible for FMLA. My employer was really understanding though, and said I can still take some unpaid weeks after the 6-8 weeks to extend my leave.

It was the right move for me, the job is way better, money is better, and it is way less stressful than my old job. I definitely felt weird telling them I was pregnant because if you do the math it was like the first week I started here that it happened, but oh well!

@Anya: I don't know! I think a 6 week maternity leave would stink, but if I waited 3-4 months to TTC and it ended up taking another year after that I would be kicking myself!

I will probably feel them out, they seem really family friendly, maybe not pull out all the stops when TTC, but still go for it. Thanks guys!

@KelLeeLeee: I got 14 weeks. They didn't have a great maternity leave, the job I left was better but oh we'll. I did short term disability too. It all worked out!

Would it be more upsetting to go for the new better job and have to take a shorter leave if you get pregnant in the next few months, or to have 3 months go by and not be KU and also be stuck in the old job? It's a tough question. I think if I were in your position, I would definitely take the new job and them the harder choice would be wether to put TTC on hold for a few cycles or not. Probably wouldn't wait!

I'm in this position right now...and to add another twist, my OH is unemployed right now. Though he had a great interview last week. I also had an interview last week....we are positive that things will work out.

I love what @Mrs.Someone said.....though some may think we are crazy, we are 9 months into this TTC journey and refuse to stop trying.

What @Mrs.Someone: said.

We've been TTC for 19 months. I switched jobs in May and had some of the same concerns. Well, here I am still not pregnant.

@hellobeeboston: I have a feeling that will happen to me too - I will get a new job and then knocked up right away, haha. I guess I could be honest if they do offer me the position and see what kind of disability benefits that I could get. How long of a maternity leave did you get?

This is so tough! I switched jobs when I was only 6 or 7 weeks pregnant and it was awkward. My new bosses knew I was pregnant before my family.

I would definitely keep trying! If you get the job and the pregnancy it will be a happy problem, right? Sorta?.... Any way you can broach the subject prior to starting? Do you know anyone that works there?? It could also take a few more months and then maybe you will be within the window. Took us 8 months first time around as soon as I was interviewing/making a change was when it finally happened! Go figure.

A litte background: I am currently going into my 7th cycle TTC. I've been at my current job for ~1.5 years. I work for a contract management company and they have been losing a lot of accounts lately, and I feel that at any point I could lose my job, or have my hours cut.
I just had an interview today with another (much more stable) company, and I think it went really well! The problem, of course, is that we are TTC. In the event that I received the job, I'm not sure if I should continue to try, or if I should wait 3-4 months to be eligible for FMLA (given that I do not have any issues with pregnancy).

What would you do in this situation? I would assume if I became pregnant before becoming eligible for FMLA, I would only receive 6 weeks off instead of 16 weeks. This is also assuming that I become pregnant (which who knows at this point!)
