@honeybear: We are going through a full gut on our main family bathroom and I just picked brushed nickel fixtures. I debated that vs. chrome, but DH said he preferred the brushed look. I'm glad to hear people find them easier to keep clean. Also, my contractor prefers Kohler and suggested we look at Build.com for our selections.

We have mixed chrome and brushed nickel in our powder room and it looks just fine. I'm not going to bother to change the faucet right now just so everything matches although maybe some day...

@honeybear: We have ORB doorknobs, chrome fixtures, and gold lights in our bathroom. I just haven't changed out the lights yet (I need an electrician for it).

@jhd: Thanks! Have you been happy with the quality of the Moen fixtures? I'm willing to pay more if I don't have to replace it in 5 years! My current fixtures are probably younger than that, but they're obviously junk--we haven't even been here 2 years and despite regular cleaning and relatively gentle treatment, they look awful and leak!

@T.H.O.U.: How do you like the oil-rubbed bronze? Is it easy to clean and keep looking good? I'm leaning towards this or maybe polished brass, but I'm worried about water spots (I do have a 6yo boy who will use these faucets!).

@peachykeen: Thanks! Oil-rubbed bronze is now definitely a contender!

@Ms. RV: Yep, that's what I was thinking on the cleaning front--the chrome fixtures we've got are harder to keep clean than the nickel/brushed ones (I'm not sure they're actually nickel since I didn't put them in and they're really lousy, but they're brushed something!). I've also got a chrome fixture on one bathroom sink and it is SO HARD to keep clean. The material is not helped by the fact that the handles have a concave indent on them as a "design" feature, and water pools there every time someone washes their hands. Genius design, right? And of course now the metal base is rusting too... Let's just say that your point about everything going at once is well taken! ;)

@Mrs. Microscope: I'm 99% sure that the majority of our current stuff is all from a big box store and almost certainly low end. I've got one Delta faucet (the only one in my house that is not giving me a problem!), so I'll look into them!

@snowjewelz: I was thinking about a rain shower, but I feel like I need a handheld to clean the tub, and I don't really want to do extra plumbing work since this is not the master bath.

We put brushed nickel in our bathrooms when we moved in 3.5 years ago and I prefer that over chrome for sure. We've been house hunting for the past few months though and the nicest looking bathrooms all seemed to have oil-rubbed bronze fixtures - bathrooms and door handles, etc.

I believe we have brushed nickel everything; I like the look and I think it's more smudge resistant?

If I were to do my bathrooms again, I totally kinda want those big rain shower heads!

Brushed nickel is so much easier! Also, go with a middle priced line from a showroom, not Lowes/home Depot. The quality they carry is nice, but won't last as long as a real builder quality fixture of mid-priced or higher (low end builder grade is crap). I recommend Delta!

I have brushed nickel in one batgroom and chrome in another and brushed nickel is so much easier to keep clean.

Also- it is really common for fixtures to go at the same time. You figure they are probably all the same age so the gaskets and washers all wear out at the same time. I had two shower heads and a kitchen faucet all go in one week!

We have some mixed in our bathrooms. Knobs are ORB but fixtures are polished.

It mostly depends on the look you're going for.

We have Moen brushed nickel fixtures from Lowes. I can try to find them. We just picked from what was on display in the store!

Apparently my house is falling apart this weekend.

Anyhow, the time has come to replace the showerhead in our bathroom and two sink faucets too (double sink). If you have a showerhead and/or faucet that you love, please tell me what it is!

Also, I would appreciate your thoughts on the finishes on faucets/showerheads. Chrome? Brushed nickel? Something else? What do you like? The shower stall is white tile, the vanity top is a medium brown granite with some black and gray speckles, and the cabinet doors are polished dark brown wood. The hardware on the cabinets is brushed nickel, and the lights are too, but I don't mind switching those out if I find some really nice fixtures that don't match or if there's a compelling reason to go with a different finish on the fixtures.
