Friends in law enforcement say the best security system is a dog. We have a large dog and totally agree. No one would hear our dog and even consider touching our house.

Not worth it. My husband was an installer and they are ridiculously easy to circumvent, and in the chance of an actual emergency are nearly useless.

We have Frontpoint and have been happy with it. We can take it with us when we move and there's a super handy app if you forget to set it when you leave. We pay $45 a month.

We have cox homelife (at least I think that's what it's called.) due to the bundle discount it was actually cheaper to have it than not. But we never actually use it. The house had actually been wired for adt previously and they were able to use the existing wires instead of completely redoing it.

We've been very happy with ADT. I never looked at anything else because ADT was what I grew up with. I believe we pay around $35/month.

My family and I recently moved from a condo, where we had a front desk and security, to a rental home (we're in the Bay Area). The area is lovely and safe but there do tend to be break-ins in the area as it is difficult for the police to respond quickly to alarms or calls up in the hills where we are (narrow, windy roads). We are looking into home security options, but are a little overwhelmed by the number of options. ADT seems to be the most common system, and the home is actually already wired for it, but it would also be the most expensive as we'd have to update the wiring/system (current system is quite old) and the monthly fees are higher than we'd like, especially as we are planning on moving in 2-3 years and would hate to not be able to bring along the equipment we paid to install. The most cost effective option would be Xfinity Home since we already have Comcast and this could just be added to our services as a new "bundle".....great in terms of cost and as the system is "mobile" and we could move it with us in a few years, but I wonder if you also get what you pay for, and we'd really not be any safer.

Any other suggestions? Thoughts on either ADT or Xfinity Home? Advice would be appreciated! Thanks!
