@Mrs. Sketchbook: oh interesting! I guess that makes sense...maybe include the receipt in photos or if on CL when you meet in person? Then the person can show that as proof, or if you get flagged you can use it to back you up!

If you want to do this in the future, consider holding on to old giftcards that are empty.

I just returned $100 worth of stuff to JCPenny from last Christmas and this year, and was able to put the store credit on an existing giftcard (it was from the Christmas before and had like $2 on it). Then you might be able to sell the GC

(I didn't really need the GC, but on my way out walked by the lingerie dept and remembered I'd been meaning to buy bras so I used it for that!)

@bookwormmama: I think ebay or CL is probably a good idea, I was just worried because I think that stealing merch and then returning it to get a card to sell is apparently a big time black market industry and I didn't want to get in trouble!

Did you try eBay? Or maybe Craigslist? Do you have a private buy, sell, trade or neighborhood group on Facebook? I see people post similar things on our neighborhood B/S/T groups and your MIL wouldn't be able to see it if she's not in the group!

@Mamaof2: eh my MIL would probably flip out, since her stuff is what I sold! She saw me once sell a necklace she got me and insisted on buying it back! It was totally awkward.

We got a bunch of stuff from JCPenney for Christmas that I returned. I wanted to sell the card on cardpool.com, but they won't take merchandise return cards anymore. Do you know of any other places that you can sell a merchandise return card? Can you do this on ebay?

I have two boys so I just don't have much of a use for clothes at the moment and I'm trying not to buy so much stuff for my house that I don't need...
