Is the work trip not optional; just the location? If the trip itself is optional I would pick none. CA is too far and I hate flying, and then no FL due to Zika since you're pregnant. I'd just take some time off to do another mini vacation with the family if possible!

I would just go to CA, but I hate both humidity in general and Florida and Disney specifically. It would be worth a couple more hours on a plane to be someplace more pleasant!

I wouldn't go to Florida. I was considering going to Disney World or a Disney Cruise but my doctor advised against traveling to Florida and the Caribbean. The Zika risks might be low but not worth the stress to me. We went to Disneyland in CA instead and had so much fun!

@ssmom: if you're still deliberating, FYI I flew from JFK to LAX when I was 6 months pregnant this time a year ago (although just with husband, no LO in tow) and it really didn't feel like a much bigger deal to fly a little bit longer once I had already gone through the rigmarole of getting to the airport and getting on the plane. And California is still gorgeous in high summer :) I understand you're freaked about zika--I am too even though it's not in the news as much right now--but sounds like Orlando is totally fine!

May sounds so much better for you, both in terms of weather and how far along you will be. Have fun! Previous posters have already given good advice re: clothing, but just wanted to add (fwiw), I went to Disney at 6 weeks pregnant last spring and didn't really worry about zika at all and neither did my doctors (and I did have a history of loss to worry about). Baby is now 5 months old.

@ssmom it is still going to be incredibly hot and humid in May. I would wear the most lightweight, loose, comfy shorts and tank top you can. When I was pregnant (3rd tri in south FL in the summer!), I ordered some cheap maternity running shorts from Walmart online. No panel, just super big and loose waistband that I wore low under the belly. I also wore a lot of loose dresses. I could not handle the panel and being outside in the heat for very long. Basically, I wore those running shorts and Liz Lange maternity tanks from Target every day.

@ssmom: Nice!

I wore maternity shorts (full panel) and a light weight top. I was ok but the panel on my belly was pretty hot. Around mid day was the time that I just needed to still find some A/C.

@ssmom I live in south Florida and people are not really worried about Zika anymore... but that being said, I'm not pregnant so obviously you have to go by what your OB says. I think I actually just read an article in the last couple weeks that said all their mosquito testing in Miami has come back normal, no Zika.

If you're going to Disney, they spray really well and I've never seen a lot of bugs there. I was there in September 2016 and Feb 2017 and in my room, they had a can of bug spray and they had bug spray out at the parks for anyone who wanted to spray themselves down. I think because people are worried about zika.

Also you'll die in long sleeves and long pants. I wear workout type, wicking clothes to the theme parks - like loose running shorts and a tank top.

@Pollywog: Ok definitely good point about the heat! I can handle heat to a certain extent (having spent summers in SE Asia growing up) but yeah that coupled with being pregnant doesn't sound like fun. Good to know your OB's thoughts on Zika, too! Mine doesn't have any concerns at the moment but kept emphasizing "if you MUST go..."

@ssmom: there is no way on earth I could do long sleeves or pants while pregnant in July heat. I'd absolutely go, but figure out what the best balance of precautions work for you. I would be more worried about heat stroke then zika.

ETA: I'll be TTC or close to it in December. My OB has no concerns about Zika at Disney.

Hi all, I have no idea what happened to my original post :( I'm unable to find it to edit it but this is the gist of what I had:

Backstory: m/c last summer and currently pregnant but with tons of anxiety (that has, over time improved thanks to my therapist).

I have the option of traveling to CA or FL (Orlando & Tampa) and am leaning towards FL because a 2 hr flight is much more appealing than 6 hrs and I will be bringing DH and our 2yo.

There is currently no known risk of zika in FL right now so I'm planning on going and taking all precautions necessary as if it were present (i.e. DEET, long sleeves, long pants). Given all of that, will I be insanely uncomfortable during my time there? We are planning to go to Disney for a day or two but will take it easy with no plans to rush or go on every single ride.

Would love opinions/thoughts. TIA!

I live in FL and I wouldn't unless you're going to be chilling by the pool! I think running around a theme park all day is probably NOT a great idea!

That being said... IF you're in decent shape (walk a lot, used to being on your feet), AND somewhat used to the heat, I think it would be ok to do a theme park (easy going) for a few hours in the morning (say 8-11), then the rest of the day at the pool.

I guess it depends on what you plan on doing?

I went to South Carolina in August when I was 6 months pregnant - it was 95 and humid. I wasn't down for a lot of site seeing but I was fine hanging out by the pool or at the beach.

I think Orlando in July always sounds a little miserable. I'm about 6 months pregnant now, and I feel like I could survive it, but I think I would be a hot, swollen mess and I might just not enjoy it nearly as much.

As for the zika, I'm not super up on where they have been local transmissions in Florida, but I'm guessing it's similar to Texas. We've had local transmission in one small area at the very southern most area. Even though there isn't widespread transmission yet, we are avoiding going to any of the southern beachy areas this summer while I'm pregnant because they're southern enough local transmission could begin at any point, even if it hasn't yet. All of this is based on my understanding, so it could be wrong, but for me, it's not worth the potential risk. If you do go, I would just make sure you (and your partner if they'll be there) use lots of insect repellent several times a day, and try to stay away from any areas with standing water, etc. as much as possible.

ETA: I know you didn't have any text in the post. When I posted my reply, it put my reply as the text of your post and as my comment, so I changed it to the ? so no one would think that post is what you said. WEIRD.

Would love some thoughts/input on this:

A little backstory - m/c last summer so tons of anxiety that has slowly improved with the help of a therapist but also with the nice progression of my current pregnancy.

I have the option of traveling to work to CA or FL (Tampa & Orlando) in July. DH and my 2 yo will be coming with and I am leaning heavily towards FL because of the shorter flight time (comforting for me and LO) and being more familiar w/ FL (easier to get around, have friends to visit, etc.) My only concern right now is the potential for zika virus. At the moment there is no "known" risk, especially in that area and if I do go, I plan on taking every precaution as if it were present. My question is, is it actually feasible to take all precautions (i.e. DEET, long sleeves/pants) and will they be enough to make me feel confident in not getting bitten? Also, I know FL is known for humidity and heat in the summer (which I am sort of accustomed to having been to SE Asia in the summers growing up) but will I be absolutely miserable to the point of not wanting to go outdoors? Any local tips for managing being out in the heat? We do plan on going to Disney for a day or two but have no plans to rush to see/do too much..

Any thoughts, suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thank you!
