DH didn't want me to paint. So I got the all-clear from my midwife. We used low-VOC and opened all the windows.

My mom doesn't want me to wear heels. My dad wants my belly covered 24/7. DH doesn't let me walk up or down stairs (outside) by myself.

My family is very upset that I continue to work out (aerobics, yoga and pilates, nothing really strenuous even) because they say the movement will make the cord wrap around the baby's neck.

I moved my hips around in a circle and asked what that would do. They were horrified at me.

@HabesBabe: My husband LOLed.
@hellobeeboston: That's ridiculous! Walking is SO good during pregnancy - why on earth would she think otherwise?

Ha -- my MIL didn't think I should be walking, anywhere, ever.

Like, when we did a family picnic and had to walk 5 minutes, she wanted me dropped off in the car exactly where we were going.

She's crazy--- I'm only 23 weeks, but I try to walk a mile to 2 miles a day on my commute to & from work.

Ha, my little brother treats me like I'm going to break at any moment. Don't get me wrong, it is super sweet of him but he wouldn't even let me carry a 3lb bag of dog treats.

My mom doesn't want me to carry ANYTHING or even open doors or push the grocery cart.

My dad wanted to give me this Asian diet tea he made with bitter melon, which can cause miscarriage. LOL.

My dad pretty much thought I should be resting 24/7. He didn't even like me walking when the doctor gave me the okay to exercise. He's slightly overprotective.

My mom won't let me carry my LO, which is understandable since hes' 30lbs! But sometimes I have no choice (like when he's about to run onto the street and won't let me pull him back). I'm also not allowed to eat watermelon because apparently it causes contractions (old wives tale I'm sure).

@kge: I crossfitted my entire pregnancy up to 1 week before the due date. I just modified the workouts. I was 6 months pregnant when I got Level 1 certified and 7 months pregnant when I got my kids certification.

@kge: I did xfit throughout my first trimester (had some problems beginning of second tri so I kind of stopped then) and that was pretty much the only time I WASN'T nauseous!
There were three pregnant ladies at my xfit gym at the same time, one of whom was a coach :)

My mom doesn't want me to travel until I'm further along in my pregnancy.
That's about it though. I carry my LO + groceries up the stairs usually. 23+lbs + up to 20 lbs of groceries up the stairs. :P
I'm gonna have to stop carrying so much weight soon though

@autumnlove: I've heard of this one! It's an old wive's tale that the cord will wrap around the baby's neck if you lift your arms above your head.

A bunch of people told me not to lift/carry my daughter while I was pregnant with my son. I think this was common advice back when our moms were pregnant?

the big one for me was traveling - it was absolutely the most uncomfortable thing for me to do and it seemed like no one understood that and expected me to drive everywhere. I was soo swollen and would get even worse when I was seated for too long.

We were at the lake with my family on Sunday and I was swimming around. My sister freaked out on me for not hanging on to a raft in case I got a cramp. I explained to her 1) I used to be a lifeguard and know how to handle the situation and 2) There were enough people around me to help out if that happened. It's not like I was diving off the boat or trying to swim the length of the lake! Geez :)

While we were moving, my mom flipped out on me for moving an empty dresser and an end table roughly three feet. I did NOT lift them - I turned the table into place and scooted the dresser with my hip. She went off about how I'd never forgive myself for miscarrying.

And though my mom refuses to let me lift anything over 20 lbs, my dad somehow wants me to mow 10 acres in 98 degree heat when I next visit, though I'll be more heavily pregnant. It takes more effort to get the mower to the lawn than it did to move those pieces of furniture, completely apart from the heat. WTH?

What weird limitations/lack thereof did people expect of you while pregnant?
