@hilsy85: I'm not sure my husband does a true paced feeding, but generally when he's feeding Xander, he'll stop him after every ounce or so to burp him and give him a little break before giving him the bottle again, in order to make the feeding last long. It still doesn't take as long to feed him that way as it does when breastfeeding, but I think it generally takes them about 20 minutes or so, so I think that should be good.

@T.H.O.U.: Based on that calculator, if the high end is 30 oz, hopefully that means he wouldn't drink any more than that! He seems like such a little piggy though, gobbling up 5oz in a bottle like it's nothing, haha.

@T.H.O.U.: that's true! I guess I was just thinking of my LO, who generally doesn't like the bottle as much :)

@Adira: I would also maybe make sure that your DH does paced feedings with the bottles, especially if your LO is getting them for a full day/two days.

@hilsy85: Yes, it's just for one night! Hopefully he does okay with it, because in a month, both Hubs and I will be gone for the wedding for TWO nights. I'm more nervous about that, but I'm hoping this night away from me will be a little practice run for Xander.

@T.H.O.U.: Yes, they do! And they can drink it a lot quicker! I'm really curious to find out exactly how much he does drink when I'm not there! Hopefully it's 30oz or less - if he drinks more, he'll deplete my freezer stash!

This says for 6 feedings per day, the low end would be 6 bottles, three ounces each (18 ounces total) or high end, 6 bottles, five ounces each (30 ounces total).

But babies will often will drink more from a bottle because its easier to get out.

I think they say typically, between 22-26oz per day, but I would think about leaving 30oz just in case.

@Adira: you might also find that he doesn't go through all the bottles, especially if he's used to nursing some of the times, or he might just miss you and not want to eat as much! If you're only gone for one night, I wouldn't stress too too much about him eating all the bottles you leave--like I said, he can make it up when he's with you again! :) Have fun at the bachelorette!

@hilsy85: haha, so true, damn pump! I guess I'll just have to tell Hubs that he'll definitely have to feed him 6 5oz bottles, but that he might have to feed him more. Though if he goes through more than 30oz in a day, I'll never be able to pump that much! There goes my freezer stash!

Not necessarily, since babies are more effective at pulling out milk than a pump is. I would leave the 6 5oz bottles and then maybe an extra bottle or two, just in case. Worst case, he'll make it up when he sees you!

I wasn't sure how to phrase the title of this post, but basically my question is, is how much my LO eats in his bottle at daycare indicative of how much he probably eats from the boob at home?

For example, Xander eats 6 times a day. 3 at daycare from a bottle, and 3 at home from the boob. His bottles at daycare are each 5 oz and he has one every 3 hours. He eats roughly every 3 hours at home too (once before daycare, then twice after, then sleeps through the night).

Is it safe to assume that he's getting roughly 5oz at every feeding since that's what he's eating from the bottle at daycare? I'm trying to figure out how much milk to provide him for this weekend. I'll be gone over night at a Bachelorette party and Hubs will be in charge of feedings. I'm guessing he'll take 6 5oz bottles during the day, since I won't be there to feed him. Does that make sense?
