WTF! How did I miss ALL of these Feb threads?????

Favorite thing about LO right now: His laugh!!! It's rare, but when he's in a giggly mood, it's sooooooooo adorable!!!

LO's latest milestone: Xander FINALLY rolled back to front a few weeks ago, but I haven't witnessed him doing it since, haha. He can sit pretty well now, but still needs assistance. We're also working on standing, but he's still got noodle legs, haha.

Having difficulty with: TUMMY TIME - he still friggin HATES it!!! My baby's never going to crawl...

Starting solids- how's it going: Starting next week - I'm scared!

How are YOU doing: Great!!! I love my little guy sooooooo much!!! And now that he's interacting more, he's so much fun!!!

Fun summer activities you've been doing: Not a lot - just shopping, going out to eat, and we tried dipping him in a lake, but he did NOT like it!

Most looking forward to: Being able to sit unassisted! I can't wait for him to play with toys like blocks and stuff!

@twobee: Thanks!

I really think the naps were just a matter of time. I did months and months of swaddling, white noise, black out curtains, drowsy but awake and she woke up at exactly 30 minutes. every. single. time. I was putting her down for six or seven naps per day and it was driving me crazy. Then she started having the occasional long nap, and in the last two weeks has suddenly switched to a short early morning nap, a long mid-morning and long afternoon nap and sometimes a short nap before bed. She actually started the longer naps when DH was on full time daddy duty while I was at a conference. I guess he just has the magic touch.

I just joined hellobee today. Hope its okay to jump right here in by way of introduction!

Favorite thing about LO right now: Lots of smiles and giggles - she loves playing with us and loves when we sing and play guitar to her.

LO's latest milestone: Looks when we point things out to her. Can grab both her feet (she's very pleased with herself about this.) Is finally napping for longer than 30 minutes at a stretch, thank goodness.

Having difficulty with: No rolling over either way yet. Not too worried as she's scooting around a fair bit, but I hope she starts before her 6 month check up. Night sleep is kind of a disaster.

Starting solids- how's it going: Just started this week on vegetable and fruit purees. Once she figured the whole thing out she really went for it and has gobbled down everything we've tried. I think we'll move to BLW pretty soon as she wants to grab the spoon and put the food in her mouth all the time.

How are YOU doing: Better. We had a really tough first three-four months with colic and terrible sleep. I feel like its controlled chaos around here, rather than outright chaos. But the smiles and giggles definitely make a huge difference. Looking forward to going back to work in October, though I'll miss being with LO.

Fun summer activities you've been doing: Farmers Markets, walks along the beach.

Most looking forward to: LO getting more mobile - sitting up, rolling and crawling. I think she's getting frustrated about not being able to move around and its making her cranky. Plus I can't wait to take her to the awesome new playground near our place and try out the swings.

@WALLAROO: I completely agree with "food before 1 is just for fun!"... when we feed the purees it's only a few tbsp and he's done, most of the time it dribbles out of his mouth haha so I'm not even sure he's eating anything. I just want to get him used to using his swallow reflex with really soft, purees first but will start BLW soon.

I think those 4 categories sound good! We can add more later if we feel the need, but those seem to cover the main topics most mom's deal with in the first year.

@twobee: I did the same thing with my daughter, and it worked out well for us so that's why we're doing it again! I don't think it has to be all or nothing (purees vs BLW) so this is what we're comfortable with. Once she went BLW she never went back though and wanted to do everything on her own! My sassy one liked having control over her food. :P

@JerricaBenton: How sweet! They are not always interested in each other but once a week or so we will get a real conversation going with babbling and giggles. It's funny - the older girl is generally much more interested in her sister than vice versa. When we put her in a high chair for the first time at a restaurant while the other stayed in the stroller, she sat with her neck craned to see her sister until we finally turned the chair to face the stroller head-on!

@WALLAROO: They did pretty well, all things considered. We had a similar trip when they were 3.5 months old and this was WAY better - much less spitting up and a lot easier to entertain them with toys and songs and silly faces. The trip made me really understand that sometimes at this stage their fussing is just about boredom, not discomfort - all it would take to make a sad baby giggle was moving my hand around to giver her something to look at! I think it would have been impossible without an extra adult in the car - we had them outnumbered and that was essential. But changing a baby in the car and feedings at truck stop parking lots or on the porch of a Cracker Barrel gets pretty old. They napped ok during the daytime actually but had a hard time settling for bedtime, so it made it tough to stay on the road at night.

@tororojo: I hate to say anything is consistent (and who wants to jinx themselves?) but sleep is going pretty good here, except for the 5:45 wakeup (for a pacifier). But we are FF and night weaned pretty early. I found that when we stopped feeding overnight altogether, the non-feeding wakeups that we had been having diminished. You might try using a wubbanub pacifier - that made it much easier for the girls to learn to put theirs back in by themselves and that has helped make some early morning cries turn out to be nothing. Of course, it also makes it easier for them to pull it out if they are so inclined, but that gives them something to play with and seems to keep them entertained sometimes too.

@Mrs. High Heels: It sounds like we are doing things pretty similarly - mixing purees and BLW for a short time. I will be interested to see how it goes for you! Yesterday purees were much more successful than the day before, but no one has been interested in grabbing the food we give them BLW style. (Funnily enough they do grab the spoon! They seem to want to self feed that way.) I think we may need to separate out because I am afraid that offering both ways at the same meal is just confusing to them. Which makes sense, actually.

@Mrs. High Heels: we are currently just doing one meal a day with BLW and they love it so far. They haven't disliked any of the veggies or fruit we have offered. I'm going by the mantra "food before 1 is just for fun"

Looking at the January board they have the following: sleep, milestones, feeding, moms

That looks good to me. Anything else to add?

@WALLAROO: Yea pureed green beans to start. We're starting with one meal a day of purees for a week. Then I'll do 2 meals - one puree, one BLW.

Then at Month 7 I'll probably transition to full on BLW.

If you are worried about green beans, maybe you try a different veggie at first like steamed cauliflower, broccoli stems, carrot fingers?

Anyone think we should break out topics in our board like other months (i.e. solids, milestones, sleep, etc) or do we not have enough activity for that?

@Baby Boy Mom: thanks for starting this up again! i've been seriously slacking with all the baby month threads.

Favorite thing about LO right now: he smiles and laughs alll the time. i just love seeing his personality develop more and more.
LO's latest milestone: his two bottom teeth sprouted!
Having difficulty with:
Starting solids- how's it going: i gave him a bit of banana the other day, and the last two days i've given him 2-3 spoonfuls of pureed squash but he made a funny face. we will try green beans next week. i'm skipping rice cereal.
How are YOU doing: doing well, but exhausted this week because he started waking up 1x a night again. i know that's not a lot, but after a month of him sleeping from 8-6 am it's an adjustment having to wake up randomly in the middle of the night again!
Fun summer activities you've been doing: since i work full-time, most activities are done one the weekends. we often stroll to the park, or walk around the mall because his older sister loves riding the carousel at our local mall. we also schedule quite a bit of playdates with other mom's who have kids of similar age.
Most looking forward to: him sitting up unassisted! it'll be so nice to not have to prop him with anything. his thighs are too chunky to fit the bumbo so that's been pretty useless for us.

Anybody have a LO who is consistently sleeping through the night? L was an awesome sleeper for the first 3 months, but things have sucked ever since. Any tips, tricks, commiserating would be welcome! Tonight I'm gonna try feeding her every time she wakes up instead of giving her a paci...last night I think she woke up 4-5 times (I fed her once) and other nights she only wakes up 1-2 times. But where are the 9-10 hour stretches she gave us as a 2 month old? And she only naps for 45 mins at a time.

@WALLAROO: Thanks! I lurked a little bit while I was pregnant and I was cheering for you - it was nice to see what was going on with a twin pregnancy a little ahead of mine. Thanks for sharing

@Baby Boy Mom: We were in St. Augustine. I love it there - we go pretty often so it is familiar and pretty easy. We drove in two days on the way but just pushed through on the way home. I honestly don't know which was better - the girls were going to be exhausted either way. I feel like I have the only babies in the world that don't sleep well in a moving car. At least by making the return trip in a single day I had an extra day to recover before I went back to work - spending 13 hours entertaining strapped-in babies is TOUGH. Reminds me that I was right when my maternity leave ended and I observed how much easier my job is than staying home full time would be! Twins or no, I think staying at home is hard work.

@JerricaBenton: @lolabee: glad you gals could chime in! and add me to the crazy hairloss club- it's insane!

@lolabee: I was going to mention that I decided to switch from swaddle to sleep sack this week- it's made no difference in the night wakings but at least that's one less thing to worry about. I'm getting to the point of wanting to move Baby Brother out, but he would be moving into Little Boy's room and he starts preschool next week so I don't want to rock the boat too much...or maybe that's just my excuse for why we can't do it yet. ;)

@twobee: Welcome! Where did you go in Florida? When we were in TX we also drove to Destin...but we did it over two days each way to make more manageable.

@WALLAROO: Haha...I have no idea but we won't hold it against you. :) How are they trying to crawl? With tummy down? My first never crawled so this is new territory for me, but Baby Brother keeps lunging forward from sitting and I think that's what he's trying to do but not sure.

@Baby Boy Mom: Yay! Thank you so much for starting this. I think I was the last one to respond to the last Feb thread and pretty much killed it :P

@twobee: I'm a mom of twins too but they arrived 3 weeks early so technically i'm a January mom but hung out with the Feb mamas the whole time! Welcome!

Favorite thing about LO right now: the smiles I get when I go into their room in the morning and when I come home from work, the stories they tell

LO's latest milestone: sitting up unassisted for longer periods of time, really understanding toys, and holding their own bottles

Having difficulty with: they really want to start crawling but can't figure out how to put all the movements together. I put the toy just out of their reach and they get so frustrated trying to figure out how to get to it. It's so cute.

Starting solids- how's it going: We are doing BLW and they love it. So far they have had avocado, banana, sweet potato, zucchini, cucumber, watermelon, carrots, canteloupe, and apple. The Ped said we could give them meat/protein around 7 months so I'm looking forward to that

How are YOU doing: Pretty good. Back into the swing of things at work. Still trying to fit in regular exercise.

Fun summer activities you've been doing: farmers's markets, walks and hikes

Most looking forward to: first words! I'm just dying for them to say mama.

@twobee: wow that must be amazing to watch your twins interact! We don't really have any other baby friends in the area but LO goes nuts when we look at pictures of her or other babies. I can't even imagine how great it is with their twin bond :-)

Yay! I joined HB after the Feb thread had pretty much petered out so am happy to hear about the other February babies! I have identical twin girls born about 3 weeks early.

Favorite thing about LO right now: they are so smiley and giggly! and they have started to reach towards our hands when we go to pick them up. and baby hugs.

LO's latest milestone: Putting their pacifiers back in! One of the girls has started scooting backwards - she wants so badly to crawl - and the other is doing a better job sitting unassisted.

Having difficulty with: persistent early morning waking at around 5:45, probably not unrelated to some earlier evening crankiness starting at around 6:30 - I think they are getting hungrier earlier, which will hopefully improve with solids.

Starting solids- how's it going: we just started yesterday. the high chairs were a big hit, until they weren't. We tried a squash puree and a piece of banana to get a sense of how the girls would react to BLW vs. baby food. K liked the first few bites of puree but then was d.o.n.e. with the highchair and wanted out. I think she was too hungry to wait, even though it was well before she was due for her next bottle. C, our better sitter, was slower to start but ended up pretty interested in the puree - she kept grabbing the spoon and ultimately was (messily) self-feeding. But she'd lost interest and patience by the time the banana came along, so we will try BLW next time.

How are YOU doing: Pretty good. Sleep is mostly good, and I am glad to be home after a week away with the girls and my family, but without my husband. My family is awesome and happy to help out/babysit etc, but it is hard to relax as the only parent with two little ones!

Fun summer activities you've been doing: we drove 13 hours to Florida for that week away - does that count as fun? But once we were there we did a lot of sightseeing and spent some time at the pool. The girls liked it but they'd still much rather kick in the bathtub than go in a big cold pool.

Most looking forward to: Pulling up to sitting! I want the girls to be able to sit up and look at each other because right now they have to be held so that they make eye contact. Once they are facing each other, though, they talk to each other and it is the cutest thing

@lolabee: I hope it ends soon! We always say the same thing about LO - that you can see the wheels turning! I feel like this is such an awesome time in their development!

@Baby Boy Mom: thanks for trying to bring our board back to life!

Favorite thing about LO right now: How interactive he is! He wants to touch everything, watches things very intently. Literally can see the wheels a turnin'! Oh and listening to him tell stories.
LO's latest milestone: Sitting up for a little bit, then gently falling to the side.
Having difficulty with: ditto to @Baby Boy Mom. I think we're struggling with the sleep a bit due to co-bedding. Buuuut to be completely honest I don't mind right now. I'll eat my words later!
Starting solids- how's it going: Haven't started yet. We are also doing BLW. Gave him a banana to try on Monday but haven't really dived in yet.
How are YOU doing: I feel great! Loving being a Mama and feel so fortunate every day. I've been slacking a bit at the gym since our last trip though. Will feel better once I'm back at it regularly.
Fun summer activities you've been doing: Our latest trip to TO for a good friends wedding, cabin/beach time and spending tons of time outdoors!
Most looking forward to: sitting up well enough to be able to play for awhile. I find he gets frustrated as he really wants to be able to do that! Watching his reactions when we start solids.

I cannot believe our LO's are 6 months already!

Yay! Thanks for starting this @Baby Boy Mom:! I'm sad our old thread faded out! I can't believe it's been 6 months!

Favorite thing about LO right now: Her wild giggle fits! The fact that she really 'gets' how to play now. She's loving peek-a-boo and 'I'm gonna get you!' type games.

LO's latest milestone: Sitting unassisted, scooting around.

Having difficulty with: Sleeping, which is crazy because she's been STTN for so long now. I think it's a bit of a 6 month regression/slight separation anxiety. We tried out a new method where instead of putting her in her p n' p and leaving (she's still in our room!) I laid in bed and read with a nightlight on. She woke up and started to cry but she looked over and saw me and I talked to her and she went back to sleep. She STTN in her p n' p (as opposed to the swing or on me, which is what we were resorting to to get some sleep!) for the first time in a week and a half so fingers crossed!

Starting solids- how's it going: We haven't started! She'll be 6 months this week but I'm delaying a week because she had a little cold or something last week and I want her to be 100% for a week before we start. We're going to do BLW so my plan is to start with some broccoli!

How are YOU doing: Pretty good! Feeling fine (especially since I finally got a good night's sleep!) My PP hair loss is making me a little sad though. I don't know if other people notice but I sure do! It's so long, so when I brush it it seems like I have handfuls of hair coming out! I've been lax about my vitamins so I'm starting up again and hoping that will make a difference.

Fun summer activities you've been doing: Walks, hanging out in the yard in the play tent!

Most looking forward to: Cooler weather so we don't have to worry about mosquitos, taking LO apple picking and wearing her insane fall wardrobe! LO learning to crawl...solids I'm part excited and part nervous and sad she's not my little EBF baby anymore ;)
