@Mrsdaredevil: I would take the rug to the cleaner's.. I don't think there's any way for you to get the poop out otherwise..? One day your LO's going to crawl and sit on the rug too, and you don't want any traces of poop left over. :(
Sorry this happened to you!

Oh noooo!! Sounds like he's marking his territory or letting some aggression out? Our dog will pee/poop in random places of the house if he's upset with us too. :T

We had a puppy and that was one of the reasons we had to get rid of her. We were trying to potty train her and she would sometimes go outside but the majority of the time she would go into our daughters room immediately after being let in and go poop on her floor. She was very jealous I think.

My dog has been a real jerk since I've gotten pregnant too. He's been really destructive when left alone lately. Like I'll come home and find a box of kleenex ripped to shreds all over our loft. He obviously knows something is up and he's acting out in response. So I totally feel your frustration!

Sorry about your dog's behavior. We haven't had that issue (yet).

When I was pregnant with our first, our dog would constantly sniff my bump. With my current pregnancy, she wants more attention from me and when I have had M/S she is always right outside the bathroom door with a worried look on her face when I come out. My two cats are very clingy but that could be attributed to us also having our house on the market so there is no such thing as a routine anymore.

Awww, I doubt he realizes it's the baby's room. My pup thought our baby's room was his room when we first made the nursery. Hope it all works out for you!

When I was having a lot of M/S our pup wanted nothing to do with me, she would avoid me and only sit next to DH, this made my hormonal/emotional self raelly sad. Now she has to be by me at all times and whenever I'm laying down on the couch she has to lay right on my belly.

he doesn't seem to care it's growing yet, but I think the first time the baby kicks her she will be freaked out and back to DH's side. We are trying to get her ready, she's great around kid/babiess, but I think her jelaousy side could come out when she realizes this kid isn't leaving like the normally do!

@bree72: maybe. Ou rneighbor has been letting her out for us and mentioned that the past two days she has scaled the baby gate and was laying in our bedroom when she came to let her out. She was on her bed which is on the floor, but still strange that she would be hanging out in our room during the day. I wonder when we should put the bassinet up in our room so that she can get used to it, or if we should transition her to sleeping outside of our room all together? She's not a fan of small kids (never would bite but just walks away when they are around) so I know we will need to be cautious when the baby comes. Ugh-I need Cesar Milan!

@Orvis18: Strange. Our furniture is off limits, as well. I wonder what it is about the bed that brings on the rule breaking? Our lab only has a slight jealousy problem (around other dogs), nothing that's really noticeable to anyone but us, but I'm guessing getting on the bed might be a way to try and get their scent all over your own. Who knows?

yuck! So sorry you had to deal with that. I would have lost it if our dog did that.

Our dog, a 6.5 year old black lab. has also been acting up since If found out I was pregnant. She's started jumping/knocking over the baby gate we put up for her during the day and has been jumping up on us all the time, which is something she's never done before. She's also been super clingy and starved for attention. I think she senses something is changing and she's already worried about being left out.

@bree72: ours has jumped on our bed a few times too and she has never been allowed on any furniture, let alone our bed!

Ugh...so sorry!

Our 6 year old lab has been having some behavior issues for the past couple of months, as well. She hasn't resorted to pooping in the house, but she has gotten into the trash twice now (something she has never done) and has been trying to sneak the baby's toys out and chew on them. This wouldn't be that strange if it hadn't been at least 3 years since she's showed any interest in a toy. I've also caught her on the bed a couple of times now; something that is absolutely not allowed.
Personally, I think she might just be nervous about all of the changes to the house rather than the actual baby, but it's getting on my nerves regardless. I went and bought her some new toys of her own and have upped our play time with her. It seems to have helped, but I am a bit nervous about her adjustment once the baby is actually here.

I told my husband what I read about dogs sensing hormonal changes when labor is impending. He told our dog to let us know when labor is close. She will be the first alarm before contractions. hahaha

One of our dogs is an emotional pooper too. Luckily he doesn't roll around in it afterwards. But he started going in the baby's room after she was born He went to my parents for 2 weeks because he was driving me crazy. But then he came back and is almost lovely again. He still has his instances of hurt feelings when I can only take one dog at a time out and he's the 2nd one to go out and will get himself so worked up that he poops. Sorry, it sucks and I'm not sure how to fix it except they do get over it and just give him some love when he's done being scolded.

Ugh, I feel your pain! Our cats have been very needy/puking everywhere lately! It's driving DH and I bonkers and has made us think about the pound too. Try and take a few deep breaths (not near that mess!) and remember they are part of the family too as hard as it can be sometimes!

If I catch our cats nuzzled sleeping in her pack and play bassinets once more, I may lose my mind lol

@MsMini: Interesting! That makes a lot of sense though. He must know that something is up... especially since the once computer room has suddenly become a nursery filled with all new furniture, weird smelling things, and the new rug.

I think he feels bad for what he did though, because all evening he has been coming up to me and whimpering for attention and petting.

I think it is quite common for dogs to act oddly/differently near the end of their owner's pregnancy. I know everyone I know who was pregnant and has a dog has noticed various weird behaviours. I think it is a combination of routine changes, changes around the house, and hormone changes making their mommies act and smell differently, not to mention that they look different.

The way your dog chose to act out is obviously unacceptable, but I am a big believer that when a good dog does something totally odd and out of character it is worth paying attention to.

My dog has been incredibly clingy the past few days, like needs to be within a few feet of me at all times, and spends a ton of time sniffing at me. I wouldn't be surprised if he does something weird coming up here soon.

Yep, you read right!

Our dog has NEVER gone to the bathroom in the house, ever. He is a clean freak and will hold it as long as he possibly can. However, this morning I woke up to a disgusting surprise on our BRAND NEW BABY RUG in the nursery.

He decided to roll around in the mess after he went, so the s**t was literally ground into the rug and had leaked through onto the hardwood floors. It was the foulest thing I had ever seen and smelled in my whole life.

I can't decide if he did it because he is already resenting the new baby on the way or because it is the room he spends the least amount of time in (farthest away from his "living quarters").

Anyways, I was quite frazzled today and really stressed trying to clean up the mess! In a hormone-induced pregnancy rage, I had half a mind to just drop him off at the pound.
