@wheres_c: we were lucky that DDs case wasn't too severe. We've had her in the helmet for 6 weeks now, but only 5-10 hours a day bc she's been getting heat rash. Now her bump is down to 4mm, which is in the range of normal.. But since she doesn't mind wearing her helmet I think we'll stick with it for at least a couple more weeks.

Thanks for sharing! Great news you won't need a 2nd helmet. How did the RnP make it worse? R slept in the RnP for 8 or 9 weeks, but she moved her head back and forth all night. I know this because she left hair all in the RnP.

Thank you so much for this! We are currently going through this with my son. He got his helmet two weeks ago and I'm hoping that the time files and that the improvements are quick as we have a European trip and a cross country move (to Texas!) lined up in the next two months!
I'm so glad that you little one had great results - that is so encouraging - great to hear from someone on the other side of this!! Thank you!

@mrs. wagon: @MrsF: we definitely kept turning him in there. I think for us, it would have happened with or without the rock and play, but I think the rock and play effected the shape and severity.

@laineysmom glad that she's responding! Any word when she will be done with treatment? Time flies!

Thanks to everyone that said this would make a good post. I wasnt really sure how to blogify it, and wasnt sure my writing was good enough...but I wanted to share.

I know that it was a really tough decision for some mommys....one of the girls I know with a helmet baby had the same insurance as me but went to the other specialist. They wouldn't accept her insurance and she had to take a loan of $3600 for the helmet. She also has to take her son to physical therapy twice a week vs doing the exercises at home!

Thanks for sharing your journey. So glad that your LO is doing well but it has certainly required a lot of dedication on your part!

@mrs. wagon: M had all naps and nighttime sleep in her rock'n'play for the first 5 months of her life with no problems. Maybe she moved quite a bit? I'm so glad it wasn't an issue because that r'n'p was a total lifesaver!

This is a great post. I know when my son first was diagnosed with plagiocephaly/torticollis I looked it up on the boards and there wasn't a whole lot. I think mrsjacks had written a post or two on it. Super info.

@wheres_c: I absolutely agree that you should turn this into a guest blog post!! I think a lot of parents would really benefit from this!!

I had a question about the rock n play... did your LO keep his head pretty stationary in it? We used it a lot when LMW was born, but we turned her head as often as we could. She favored one side all the time and we were constantly turning it. She still had a little unevenness, but she has so much hair that it's tough to tell exactly how severe it was and what (if any) improvement she's had now that she's been sleeping on her tummy forever. I'm so curious to know whether the rock n play had anything to do with it, or if she would have had the same result flat in a crib if she still favored the one side.

This should be a blog post. LO has a few baby friends that have had helmets and have responded beautifully to the treatment! Though it's not ideal, it has been great to witness first-hand how much it's not a big deal.

I agree about doing a blog post- maybe go in depth with pictures in a guest post on HB?

My cousin had these issues and a helmet last year (he's two now) but his twin brother didn't have any issues. I find it so crazy how the two of them in the exact same environment could have differences in something so big like that. I guess that's important for moms to realize- it would seem it's not entirely environmental.
