@regberadaisy: frequency of changing makes a difference in prevention. Diaper-free time is helpful to get over the rash.

I've heard that triple paste works wonders. Personally I've been using coconut oil to prevent diaper rash, and so far so good. I just put a little bit on her bum after each diaper change. She smells like a tropical drink and NO diaper rash. Also, coconut oil is cloth-diaper friendly if you're planning on using cloth.

@regberadaisy: Triple Paste is our favorite. It's expensive but totally worth it. Whenever you find a coupon or cheap price just stock up :)

@BabyBoecksMom: aww thanks for linking my entry :) Definitely key are: no wipes, just water and COMPLETELY dry before applying rash cream.

It doesn't seem as red now and she finally went down for a nap after I put a size1 on her. I wonder if I was overreacting. But def still getting the Desitin and using a cloth for the next little while. We'll see what my husband thinks.

I tried the towel trick and she pooped on it while I was letting her bum air dry!!!

So glad she finally went down for a nap at 5:30. She hadn't had one since waking at 9:30am :(

I think I'll order the triple paste from amazon and try that too!

Aww your poor lo! My lo has diaper rash since she started teething. She's in cloth so she has special diaper rash cream. Our doctor said to just wipe with water and a soft cloth, no wipes. And make sure it's dry before diapering her, she even said we could use the hair dryer on low.

yeah we didnt use wipes for the 1st couple of weeks at the advice of the hospital, we just used warm water with a cloth. I also use earth mama angel baby bottom balm on her butt, its supposed to be really good for diaper rash and is all natural.

if you're going to buy something, i love triple paste! it's a little more $$ than desitin, but it seems to clear things up much faster. also, you can try wiping with one of those cotton rounds you use for taking off nail polish/ removing eye make up with baby oil on it.

Wipes are sometimes the issue (many contain alcohol or other cleansers and/or fragrance), you could try water and wash cloths until the rash clears up, wipe with a cloth with just water, and then wipe to dry. When Sawyer had his first rash, I also laid with him on a towel and no diaper for 20-30 minutes a couple times per day (it was dangerous, but did work). I got a cortisone/anti-fungal cream from our doctor, and layered that under Desitin, and that cleared it all up!

Before we started using our cloth diapers I noticed DDs bottom was starting to get really red so I went ahead and switched to the cloth and started using Grovia magic stick on her bottom. Every now and then if it starts looking red again ill use the magic stick and it seems to knock out the redness and irritation in a day or so. It's nice bc its a stick also. Just rub it on and no messy fingers for you :)

My LO isn't here yet, but my SIL swears by adding baking soda to the baby's bath along with using the diaper cream. Her doctor recommended it and it really helped my nephew.

:( I think you've got it covered--bigger diaper, make sure she's dry before putting the diaper back on, and apply power/diaper rash cream.
Hope it clears up soon!

I have read that air drying the bum after wiping and before you put the diaper on is the way to go. Good luck!

I think.

I wish I can take the pain away for her! Her butt is red and she cries bloody murder when I wipe her. :(
Currently using Burt's bees ointment but I think I will have my husband stop and get Desitin when he gets out of work.
I think also her NB diapers are getting too small and chafing so bumping her to size1 today.
Previously we were not drying her after wipes. I think we need to start doing that.

Any other tips to quickly cure the diaper rash and prevent in the future?

I want to cry every time she's in pain!! :(
